POLL: Do you use AI (to translate)?
Many of us will be labelled because of the AI text we generated, labelled by AI a tool that stole humans their words. Words you rather don't use if you like your text to be original.
The problem is that these contains more and more words, phrases and parts of text we once saw as a lovely description of what was noticed...
I wrote this text about AI text checkers and the false outcome but also the very big difference among the different AI text checkers (over 25 and not two have the same outcome!).
What if we all post in our own language?
Will the moderator or curator say, after s/he translated (let's presume they will do this extra work and every Steemian will too), that the text is written by AI? Or will they not check the translation and simply say that the weirdness is due to the original language?

I prefer to translate my own texts using Claude AI because I hate the browser's translator.
Furthermore, whenever I translate a text using it, regardless of the language it comes from, It does so in the feminine, even if the author is male and has written in the masculine.
I have my doubts about whether people would use the tool to translate a text, or if they would simply look for something in a language they understand.

I find it strange you see feminine since each time I see a translation out of Spanish it is always "his", "him", "he" even if the character is female, the name is and is clear from the text.
Yesterday it was the first time I saw the same translation mistake made from Chinese to English but it wasn't as I translated into Dutch.
Indeed this is also a burden if it comes to translations. It can make it very difficult to understand what the story is about and who says or does what.
First of all: most will never read the entire text unless there is something that really grabs their attention.
Secondly, most are not able or too lazy to translate. Might be a built in translater or browser helps out here.
If it comes to AI it is more likely used to write texts (content + comments) and generate pictures or ask questions. Whatever the outcome is: it will rarely be checked.
Apparently, my version of Chrome is feminist. To it, everyone is a woman, haha.
It's true that few people read everything that's written. Sometimes, based on some responses, I think it's either a bot, or they simply didn't read beyond the title.
I think my version of Claude knows me because he tries to use my writing style. Of course, since I don't speak English very well, it might just be an illusion.

En mi caso no hablo ingles pero gracias a los traductores se ha abierto la posibilidad de estar conectada al mundo aunque muchas veces tal como citas las palabras no son bien interpretadas.
En esos momentos cuando algo suena mal busco opciones para entender y seguir adelante.
En mi rutina de publicar, cuando es un concurso que necesita traducción para llegar mas lejos, utilizo DeepL, me parece que es un traductor bastante confiable.
Cuando tengo que traducir algun comentario o algo rápido desde el teléfono simplemente busco la opción de traducir que sale por defecto.
Como moderadora de una comunidad, me toca verificar las publicaciones para saber si han utilizado IA, y si tienen traducción simpre sale positivo en un porcentaje considerable.
La verdad es que esos verificadores de IA, para mi no son nada confiables. Pienso que quien esta acostumbrado a leer y conoce a sus participantes, más o menos sabe su estilo y en esos casos si hay un cambio brusco se puede detectar.
No me parece que tengamos que utilizar traductores de IA tipo,
chatgpt, Gemini o, Grok. A menos que sea para ti una herramienta de trabajo configurada como tal.
Con esta explicación espero haberme hecho entender. Resulta cada día más difícil separar lo que son herramientas de trabajo, del trabajo hecho por uno mismo que al fin y al cabo es lo que valoramos.

I’ve thought about this more than once: translation tools are increasingly incorporating AI, which undoubtedly alters the original text. VPN for sure slows one down. Without VPN with me the translation tool still frequently doesn't work.
I do believe, even though a translation tool has been used, the writing style + feelings placed into the content can be noticed as being written by humans.
If it comes to writing to you, I have to correct a lot if I use a translation tool. Phrases, but also words we use in poetry and which mean something to us, referring to stories we wrote, will the translator mess up (remove or change for something else).
I never used Grok or Chatgpt to translate anything. I don't know how. It is deepl or Google translate although the last one is more vulgair but tends to translate literally unlike deepl these days plus it works in all those cases deepl refuses. It likes the more popular AI vocabulary way more plus American English.
It is also able to translate more languages, like Bengali, unlike deepl.

It’s true—AI translators do whatever they please. Sometimes, they kill the art and the poetry.
Most likely they always do..they never ask how it is meant.
I remember that when I used to teach, fifteen days were enough for me to recognize my students' writing styles. In fact, there were times when they would forget to put their names on their papers, yet I still knew who had written them. Something similar happens to me here on Steemit with artificial intelligence. For instance, if I have read a user's posts before and am suddenly surprised—or, conversely, disappointed—by what they’ve written, I wouldn't hesitate to conclude that the Steemian relied on AI.
I understand using whatever translation tool works best with your internet connection.

I usually use Google Translate, which sometimes will auto trigger Gemini. I have not tried the other AI engines. Interesting to see what they each translate to, at least to compare. But you have compared right Kitty? What was your verdict? Which translates closest to the actual meaning? I think without the translators, there is no other way to do this?
I think there is no harm posting in own language. Either the author, moderators, members or curators will need to take the extra step to translate to their language. But I appreciate our members who post in their language and provide a translated version at the bottom.
As to whether the translation truly captures the essence of what the author writes about, including any emotion or idioms or similar phrases (e.g. dressed to the tea, etc), that part we won’t be able to tell I think. Oo or we do reverse translation after the translation to see what it reads. Yesterday I used translator to translate chit chatting to spanish, the result looked funny, I saw charlie something in the translated version. And then changed to just chatting.

Sometimes I feel embarrassed about the education I received in high school, because I studied English from seventh grade all the way through university, yet I’m unable to communicate acceptably in the language.
I remember a Steemit user who, while applying for a curator position, listed the languages he had mastered: English, Russian, and Urdu. I couldn't help but laugh, because the guy is Venezuelan. Reading his bio, I wondered: Does he master those languages with a translator or without one? Hahaha.
Well, maybe he really is a polyglot—unlike me; without a translator, I’m left speechless, hehe.

Thank you for sharing @solperez. I feel it is tough learning language (although some people say it is easy 🤪) Maybe like the guy who knows English, Russian or Urdu. But my thought would be this guy is a mix of English, Russian and Indian? Language, I feel if we don't speak them daily, it is not easy learning theory.
I remembered when I studied English in school, I had a tutor when I was 8. One day, I tried to tell the tutor a story in English. I was really excited telling the story. But after more than 10 minutes of talking, the tutor looked at me blankly and said she didn't understand a word I said. After that, I felt really embarrassed and was determined to learn to speak in English. I participated in dramas, speaking competitions, watched English dramas and repeated after them, and learnt all the way until today.
As long as we keep practicing, I think we can improve a bit a bit. I am learning Chinese, Korean, Spanish on Duolingo. It is not easy 😅

I read the post of a few steemians, especially the non-english speaking. I love the fact that most of them write but in their language and then in English for better understanding, even though it is usually a long read.
However, I write in English and I do not need a translator.
I mostly use a translator when someone comments on my post in another language, and I don't use AI in translating it. I mostly make use of Google to translate whatever I want to translate, it is faster for me though.
Google translate works easier for me considering the fact that I am only translating a few sentence. Sometimes I reply in English, especially when I am busy. But if I want to show a good gesture I try to interpret it.
These translators are life savers because it helps us connect better even beyond our language barrier.

When it comes to translation, I just use whatever AI comes to mind, but personally I lean on DeepSeek and Gemini most. Those two have been through thick and thin with me🤫
I've noticed that frequent use of one particular AI makes it quite familiar with your writing, which can be helpful. But there are always things it won't quite understand—uncommon words, regional terms, or phrases that sound abusive in one language but are completely casual in another part of the world. That's where it gets tricky.
For me, it's actually best to type in English rather than my native language. Yoruba has so many variations depending on region, and AI fails to grasp the true meaning. Some words or phrases end up sounding like commands even when they're just normal conversation. Not to mention that there's a widely known Yoruba that's different from the native one, and AI only ever gets the widely known version.
And it goes both ways too. Someone replied to my post once—just a normal reply—but when I asked my AI to explain it, my own head derived a quite annoying meaning from it. Even though it was an English reply! I had already responded before I understood what was actually meant. I was so grateful the receiver didn't take it to heart 😩
So it's not just about translating from your language into English. Even when everything is already in English, meaning can get lost or twisted between what was written, what AI interprets, and what your brain decides it says.

I believe that even when we speak the same language – and this is our mother tongue – misunderstandings can still arise, simply because not everyone attaches the same meaning to the same word. When different languages are spoken and these have to be translated back and forth into one’s own language, the confusion naturally becomes even greater. So it would indeed be good if everyone bore this in mind. Even if the language is correct, it is wise to bear in mind that there are many differences in terms of interpretation and emotional connotations, and that this, in turn, can lead to many misunderstandings.

I use Meta AI, and my option isn’t on the list.
Most times it says something completely outside the box, and it even makes me change my own message. I end up using it just to suit the translation.
And you know how it is, we do a lot of translation just to engage and interact more.
AI doesn’t do justice to the translation, but it makes me happy speaking in another language I totally don’t understand, just to pass my message.
But it’s very stressful trying to make AI generate it exactly the way you want it.
I’m mostly on WhatsApp, so using Meta AI on WhatsApp makes translation easier. I don’t have to keep switching between apps.
You can try using Meta AI to compare.
I have Gemini, but I only use it to generate images with my own picture. I discovered Gemini when I was creating AI video content.
I generate my image on Gemini, then use Grok to generate the video.
I also use ChatGPT to generate prompts for my AI video content.
Since Grok introduced a subscription, I stopped creating AI videos.

I completely agree, @wakeupkitty. It is truly depressing to see platforms flooded with soulless, automated text.
As someone who writes cyberpunk fiction exploring the boundaries between humans and machines, I believe the real value of literature always comes from the human struggle and emotion behind the words—the "ghost in the shell," so to speak. If everything becomes just lazy AI copy-pasting, the community loses its heart.

That's right. You know? When I first started on Steemit, I used to imagine there was a robot behind the posts—hehe. Well, nowadays that actually can happen, but back then it wasn't like that. Still, my assumption was based on the fact that whenever I left a message, I wouldn't get a reply—hehe. Maybe they didn't have a "translator" handy like they do now.
I have no clue if I can protect the community. Those I asked in most cases go publish elsewhere and be rewarded. All I can say today is that I rather publish alone in my communities than being forced to read the same AI lines over and over again. It feels like being brainwashed, at least if you still read and write yourself. Imagine you have that AI voice and those lines hammering in your head 24/7...
Writers and artists will be rare, but therefore they will survive, unlike those needing comments, waiting till someone else or something else tells them what to do next.

I hear you perfectly, @booming03. Reading those repetitive, hollow lines really does feel like being trapped in a dystopian echo chamber. It’s just endless mechanical noise trying to drown out the real signal.
But your point at the end is absolutely right. True writers and artists will survive this exact era because they have a genuine pulse. They don't need an algorithm to tell them how to feel or what to say next. The flood of automation might be overwhelming right now, but it only makes authentic, human creativity more valuable.

There are (were) parts of this platform where users had entire conversations with AI. I am not sure if many still use this option or know about it. It is not that old.
To me it is a clear sign. If people prefer talking to AI for hours and days, this means there is a huge lack of personal contact, discussion partners at the appropriate level sharing the same interests, Many people are clearly in an ‘isolent’. The only question is why they don’t respond when you leave a comment. Perhaps it is easier to have a conversation with AI than with a human after all? There were an enormous number of replies to messages left by a test bot that responded to what was written in the text, offering standard compliments and asking questions. Naturally, when people replied to these, there was no response. The fact that people respond en masse says a lot about their desire to be read and their longing for contact.
As for your stalkers: use the MUTE function, and you won’t be able to see these messages any more. Telling them to get lost is pointless. Incidentally, there are plenty of people who are happy with it and give it upvotes. A bot doesn’t read, and doesn't respond.

Saya selalu menggunakan google translate, saya tidak pandai berbahasa Inggris apalagi bahasa lain yang sebelumnya saya belum pernah dengar, terkadang arti dari bahasa tersebut salah diartikan sehingga saya perlu bertanya kembali, kadang translate begitu payah sehingga yang kita maksud lain malah artinya jadi lain pula.....kadang aku juga tertawa ketika ada teman yang bertanya..... saya yang salah atau google yang salah aku juga tidak tahu karena saya juga tidak mengerti...

I do not disparage technological progress. However, I am opposed to the "cognitive atrophy of human beings." I remember that in the past, I knew many phone numbers by heart—especially those of the people I called frequently. Nowadays, I only know four numbers. Sometimes I hesitate when asked to multiply numbers. In other words, a large part of my gray matter has fallen into disuse because, instead of thinking, I have chosen to punch numbers into a calculator to solve the problem. I believe that, sooner or later, taking the easy way out will come back to haunt us.
Honestly, I only use Ai for information, creating fun images and video but I try not to use it when write stories in my mind not even correct grammar, I try to stay natural when share writing and use my brain. Ai is fun but I'm not dependent on it. For translation I don't use ai but if I want to understand meaning of specific word or sentence I ask ai, just for information not for using the information. Hope I explained it well, if not then let me tell you one thing that I'm really very human, hahaha! Thanks 🫰🦋😇

Well, if I find something important I use browser's translator on Google chrome browser and honestly most of the time I skip posts that written in other language even sometimes ignore reading English posts too, depend on time and mood, actually!
