RE: True Colours 11: Conclusions - BOOMING03

Checking every post is totally unrealistic; I only investigate when something looks suspicious and mostly trust my gut. Besides, I also have to check if they are doing a power down.😒

I am Venezuelan, from a small town in Sucre state. I face power outages lasting 6 to 8 hours a day. When I take on curation duties, it shows in my posts because their frequency drops significantly; however, my comment activity increases.

I didn't apply this time because I’m not currently in any club; my financial situation gets tight sometimes, forcing me to make changes. Plus, the power outages are becoming more frequent, and there is no schedule for the cuts. So, to avoid stress or being labeled irresponsible, I decided to wait and see if the electricity situation improves.

Naturally, I don't apply this process of reviewing user posts to people I already know, as I am certain they wouldn't engage in plagiarism, AI usage, or content duplication.

However, I’ve noticed that hardly any curators read or support new users. I gather the reason is that taking the time to review their posts requires more work—as was the case with Jennyburgos.

Mind you, this isn't the only user who resorts to these practices. There are others here—some with a reputation equal to mine—who have made a habit of "duplicating" their content using different titles and images. The reason? Many curators simply do not read.

Electricity... For about 20 years I didn't even know what power outages were, but because of the war, I've been dealing with them for 5 years now. In winter and during the summer heat, the Russians know exactly where and when to strike ((( Last winter we only had electricity for 3–4 hours a day. Winter is coming again, and I don't even want to think about having just a few hours of power once more.

Indeed, new users should be checked more thoroughly. Back when I was on various teams, we were told there were special curators for newcomers, so we skipped them. Still, I did upvote quite a few.

Recently, I saw a user with real photos of themselves—but their diary post text was generated by AI based on those photos. Too bad I forgot the username, maybe we should add such people to a blacklist? I might remember it later, because I was even considering that user for the post of the week. Things like that will be even harder to track

I understand what you're saying, and I agree with you: it is necessary to create a "blacklist," because if we don't address this problem, Steemit might well become overrun with this type of user in the not-too-distant future.

All curation teams maintain a Google Sheet. There’s a database where information about a user's country is pulled from, so we could add an 'info' column to flag it if a user is abusing something. Within a month or two, this database would fill up with data. And if someone accidentally misses a particular user, the sheet will warn about it, and the vote can be removed.

It's a good strategy. The important thing is to do something and not sit idly by.
