When Someone Sees a Strength You Have Not Yet Seen
Daybook October 15
Educators sometimes see emerging strengths in learners before learners can name those strengths themselves. When recognition is specific, credible, and paired with support and appropriate challenge, it may expand a learner’s sense of what is professionally possible. But developmental recognition should not become projection, favoritism, or pressure. The educator can reflect a possibility, provide evidence, and open a door; the learner must retain ownership of whether and how to walk through it.

that distinction at the end is really important. it is so easy for well meaning mentors to cross the line from encouragement into pressure without realizing it.
