"To love and to Hold"
Most times I like to seat alone and ponder on some topics that relates to life. The weather has been so hot lately, staying indoors without electricity is so discomforting, I stepped out and sat down under a tree enjoying the fresh breeze that comes from the movement of the leaves and branches of the tree.
A phrase cross my mind, "To love and to hold". What does that statement means to you? I know the first meaning that crosses your mind would be wedding ceremony. Oh yes!
Generally the phrase simply refers to one of the profound vows or oat taken when a man and a woman is getting married in a church setting. It is a vow that bonds them together as man and wife forever.
But as I sat and ponder deeper I realized that to love and to hold can not only be used in relation to weddings. It can also imply to friendship and family life.
"To love and to hold".
When you love a friend or family member, you hold them. You will hold them by hands, actions and at heart. You will keep them close to your heart. You won't want to intentionally do things to get them hurt. They are constantly in your thoughts, prayers and in your plans.
You hold them not because they are perfect, but because you have made the decision to love them them forever! They may misbehave and get you so upset but they are still family, you can't throw them away. They are a part of you.
One time I knew a guy who was caught stealing, he was taken round the streets in disgrace. His family was informed and his father and two brothers came to the police to release him, when he saw his family, he went on his kneel to plead with them to forgive him for bringing disgrace to the family, his father took him up and told him . "No matter what you have done, you are still my son and that's why I am here to take you home".
Am not saying what the guy did was good but guess what? You may never know what really happened that made him steal, you don't even know if he really did it.
To love and to hold reminds us the importance of unconditional love. Reminds us of commitment to the things and people we claim to love no matter how it turns out. It is so easy to judge people until you are in their shoes. It is so easy to give advice until it is your turn to take the advice you dished out.
To love and to hold is a prove that someone else is as important as we are so in our every day life, learn to give someone a chance to be held by you in action.
"To love and to hold" the sound of growth!
Stay safe.
Love, as I understand it, is unconditional. Friendship – true friendship – is unconditional. Friendship is a very significant form of love – the only one that is truly, entirely a matter of choice.
I think you’ve understood a great deal – life and I take our hats off to you... ;-))
