O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge.
1 Timothy 6:20

Timothy was enjoined to guard what was committed to his trust, the assignment given to him. He should avoid the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge (1 Timothy 6:20).

What would be the bane, a source of harm or ruin, of a minister of God is when he stops focusing on where he is going. Your concentration on the assignment given to you is of
paramount importance and it should not be traded or joked with.

Some young ones in a quest to know or acquire knowledge have started reading some things that would not be beneficial to them, to their spiritual life, and neither would it be edifying to them.

A number of them are doing that to prove that they know, have a depth of understanding, that when they are talking people would say they are
profound. One of the meanings of profoundness is being difficult to fathom or understand. But Jesus Christ, who is our standard, was not profound, so to say, in His teachings. He was down-to-earth, practical, and realistic, that any common person would be able to understand Him.

If you go after the knowledge you are not meant to consume and you begin to argue with the Bible—I have seen some like that—you may have a dirge to sing at the end. It is always uneasy to unlearn what you have learned, so it is good not to learn such things to begin with.

Timothy was admonished to guard the assignment or ministry given to him, and to avoid the pursuit of what is falsely called knowledge, gnosticism. This same Admonition is for every believer or minister today.

Peace.
