Software for finding and organizing pictures
I’m an amateur with hundreds of thousands of pictures going back many decades. About half of them I have organized by date and event. The rest are in unorganized folders.
I’m looking for software that uses AI to detect themes (eg birthdays, U/W, graduations, etc) and recognizes people so I can tell it to search for all birthday pictures for Joe, similar to what I can do with my iPhone. I don’t want to upload to an online service so it must run on my computer.
Furthermore, I like to take the theme content and turn them into short movies. So I can say “make a 5 min movie of Joe’s last 10 birthdays” and it auto creates the movie.
Does such software exist or am I asking for too much?
The request isn't too much at all. You basically need a photo manager with smart face and scene recognition running fully offline. Search for local AI photo apps that support keyword tagging and movie creation, and you will find what you need.
For finding people across hundreds of thousands of photos, I use snapbyface.com regularly. It runs completely offline on my computer, scans folders, and matches faces from a single reference photo. The theme detection and auto movie creation might still be a stretch for one local program, but snapbyface handles the people side well, and you can export matches to build those birthday compilations yourself.
