One Step Closer

From a distance, the mountain looks unbeatable.

The snow-covered slopes disappear into the clouds, the rocks seem endless, and the scale of the landscape makes a single human being appear almost invisible.

Yet every great mountain has one weakness.

It can only be conquered one step at a time.

Looking at this scene, I imagine a traveler who started the journey long before reaching this place. Days of walking. Heavy gear. Cold mornings. Moments of doubt hidden between moments of determination.

The summit is not visible here.

Neither is the finish line.

And perhaps that is the most honest part of every adventure.

We rarely know exactly how far we still have to go.

Life often feels like this photograph.

We stand before challenges that seem impossibly large compared to ourselves.

A difficult goal.

A personal loss.

A dream that feels out of reach.

And for a moment, we wonder if we are strong enough.

But mountains teach a lesson that is easy to forget:

No one reaches the top in a single leap.

Progress is measured in steps, not distances.

The traveler in the foreground may seem small against the vast landscape, but the traveler possesses something the mountain never will.

The ability to move forward.

The ability to choose the next step.

The ability to keep going.

Years from now, the snow will still cover these peaks.

The rocks will remain where they are.

The clouds will drift across the ridges.

But the memory of this journey will belong to the person who dared to walk into the unknown.

And sometimes, that is what makes all the difference.

Not reaching the summit.

Having the courage to begin the climb.

"The mountain is not conquered when you reach the top. The mountain is conquered the moment you refuse to turn back."
