A day in the life : Day 672

in #notes • 4 days ago

I noticed today that a lot of the technology news is shifting toward practical AI rather than another race over who has the biggest model. There is more talk about AI being built into ordinary software, phones and workplace tools. That seems more useful to me. Most people probably do not need a giant model for every small task. They need something that saves them ten minutes here and there.

My own saving of ten minutes did not work out today.

I decided to rearrange a small cupboard because things had started getting mixed together. It looked like a very easy job. I took everything out, wiped the shelves and then realised I had no idea where half of the things originally belonged.

For a while the room looked worse than when I started.

I eventually sorted everything into a few simple groups and put the useful things back. The cupboard is better now, although I have decided that I am not touching the other shelves anytime soon.

The weather has been quite pleasant in the evening. The afternoons are still warm, but the air feels different compared with the middle of the monsoon. I had a simple lunch today and avoided making anything too heavy for dinner.

Later, I spent some time reading about the growing interest in AI assistants that can remember previous conversations and preferences. Good memory could make these tools much more useful, but I think people will also become more careful about what information they give them.

I finished the day with some tea and a little reading.

The cupboard is organised, the desk is reasonably clean, and there is nothing urgent waiting for me tonight.

It was one of those ordinary days where a small job takes twice as long as expected, but eventually gets done.

That is good enough.
