A day in the life : Day 665

I spent some time reading the technology news today, and the AI story that caught my attention was Qualcomm launching its new high-end mobile chips with a bigger focus on on-device and agentic AI. The interesting part is that more AI work can happen directly on the phone instead of sending everything to a cloud server. That could make assistants faster and also reduce the amount of information that needs to leave the device.

India and the European Union are also discussing cooperation in AI, quantum technology, semiconductors and clean energy. It seems like these technologies are becoming connected rather than existing as separate industries.

My own day was considerably less advanced. I had a small problem with a charger that suddenly stopped working. I tried different sockets, moved the cable around and even checked whether the phone was the problem. After all that, I discovered the switch on the extension board had been turned off.

I stared at it for a few seconds and accepted defeat.

The weather has been fairly comfortable today. There were clouds around in the afternoon, but the rain stayed away. The monsoon is definitely beginning to feel like it is on its way out. I had a simple lunch and did not feel like making anything elaborate for dinner.

I also spent some time cleaning up my desk. There were a few old receipts and notes sitting around that had no reason to be there anymore. Once I started throwing things away, the whole job took less time than expected.

One thing I keep noticing about technology is that the useful improvements are often the least dramatic ones. Faster processing, better battery life and more capable devices may matter more in daily life than another impressive demonstration.

The charger is working again, the desk is cleaner, and I have learned to check the extension switch before blaming the hardware.
