Mini PC Journal : How to Clean Mini PC
I was looking at ways to keep a mini PC clean today. These small machines are convenient because they take up very little space, but their compact design also means that dust can become a problem around the ventilation holes and cooling fan. I would rather spend a few minutes cleaning mine regularly than wait until the fan starts making more noise than usual.
The first thing I would use is a soft brush and a can of compressed air designed for electronics. Before cleaning, shut down the mini PC, unplug its power adapter, and let it cool. Use short bursts of air to remove dust from the ventilation openings. Keep the can upright and follow its instructions. If you use an electric air duster, choose one intended for electronics and avoid excessive pressure. Never use a household vacuum directly on internal components because static electricity can cause damage.

A microfiber cloth works well for cleaning the outer case. For stubborn marks, slightly dampen the cloth, but keep liquids away from the ports and vents. I would avoid spraying cleaning products directly onto the machine.
There is also the question of where to place it. A desk with less dust, good airflow, and some distance from the floor is a sensible choice. Keeping the mini PC away from carpets, kitchen grease, and areas where pets sleep can reduce how quickly dust builds up.
I wondered whether a protective box would help. It can actually make things worse if it blocks airflow or traps hot air around the machine. If you want a cabinet or enclosure, choose one with proper ventilation and enough clearance around the intake and exhaust vents. A dust filter may help in some setups, but it needs regular cleaning and should not restrict airflow.
I think checking the vents every few weeks is a reasonable habit. The actual cleaning interval depends on how dusty the room is. A clean office may need very little attention, while a room with pets or open windows may need more frequent care.
The goal is simple: keep dust out where possible, clear the vents when needed, and let the cooling system breathe.
