Mini PC Journal : How much SSD Storage do I need?
I was thinking about SSD storage today and how easy it is to underestimate the space needed when buying a mini PC. The price difference between storage options can look small at first, but choosing the right size depends on what you plan to do with the machine.
For a basic home computer used for browsing, watching videos, online shopping, and handling documents, a 512GB SSD should be comfortable. You can install Windows, keep your everyday applications, and store a reasonable amount of personal files without worrying about space every week. If the budget is tight, 256GB can work, provided you store larger files elsewhere.

Gaming changes the calculation. Modern games can occupy 80GB or more each, and installing several titles quickly fills a small drive. I would prefer a 1TB SSD for a gaming mini PC. It leaves room for Windows, game updates, and a few larger titles without constant uninstalling.
For trading, 512GB is usually plenty. Trading platforms, browser tabs, charting software, and financial documents do not normally require a huge drive. Reliability and a stable internet connection matter more than having 2TB of storage.
Business users can also start with 512GB, especially when most documents live in cloud storage. People handling large spreadsheets, video files, design projects, or local databases may benefit from 1TB or more.
Coding is another interesting case. Basic web development does not demand much storage, but several development environments, Docker images, virtual machines, and local AI models can consume hundreds of gigabytes. For that kind of work, I would aim for 1TB, or at least make sure the machine supports an additional SSD.
One thing worth checking before buying is whether the mini PC has a second M.2 slot. Some models allow you to add storage later, while others require replacing the existing drive.
My choice would be 512GB for everyday computing and office work, and 1TB for gaming, development, or heavier workloads. I would rather buy enough storage for my actual needs than pay for capacity that may never be used.
