Can kettlebells really replace cardio for men over 40?
The answer is more nuanced than you might think.
I believe properly programmed kettlebell training can improve your cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. But building a bigger engine doesn't automatically prepare your feet, legs, joints, and connective tissues for every physical challenge.
In this video, I explain the difference between general conditioning and activity-specific preparation, using two real-world examples of my clients who put their training to the test.
You'll learn:
- How kettlebell training can improve cardiovascular fitness and VO2 max.
- Why building your engine is only part of the equation.
- How one of my clients used six weeks of kettlebell snatch training to prepare for a 250 km trek across Portugal and Spain.
- Why I combined kettlebells, rucking, and lunges to prepare another client for the 29029 Mountain Challenge.
- When kettlebells can replace much of your traditional cardio, and when you need more specific preparation.
My approach is simple: Build the engine. Prepare the chassis for the road.
A hard workout isn't necessarily an effective workout. Your training needs to produce the adaptation you're actually after.
