ASK, AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU
TUESDAY 29
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Matthew 7:7 (NKJV)
READ: Matthew 7:7–12
This passage Matthew chapter 7, verse 7 to 11, talks about asking and receiving from God. Jesus uses the illustration that if a father has a son who asks for bread, would the father give him a stone? The answer is No.
Then, He said if humans, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to their children; how much more will our Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him (Matthew 7:11).
The passage is about the goodness of God. It is about generosity of God. It is about magnanimity of God. It is about God being a responsible Father.
The passage is about telling us that God will not deny us if we ask Him of good things. However, every believer would attest to it that it is not all we ask from God that we receive from Him.
There are a number of things that could make an answer to a believer’s prayer a mirage—illusory, pipe dream or unreality.
As a believer, you cannot just claim this portion of the Bible if what you are asking for is not in line with His written Word.
You can also not just claim that the Bible says ask, and it will be given to you, when you are walking in disobedience to the written word, or the specific instructions given to you through the Holy Spirit.
If what you ask would be received, you have to be a believer who walks in the light of God’s Word (John 15:7). Someone who is sensitive to the leadings of the Holy Spirit and one who responds promptly to the instructions given by God (Romans 8:14).
You also should be a believer who pays attention to the spiritual exercise through which you are lifted to your
present level of spiritual growth.
God is willing to bless His children, grant all their requests, but He would want them to pay attention to the aspects of things they ought to do as their responsibilities.
God will not just bless you, or answer your requests, without you first of all being an obedient and a responsible child. God will not just answer your prayers when you are living a carefree life.
If you live in line with God’s Word, you will have the confidence that He hears you and you have received what you ask for.
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
15 AND IF WE KNOW THAT HE HEARS US, WHATEVER WE ASK, WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE THE PETITIONS THAT WE HAVE ASKED OF HIM.”
1 John 5:14,15 (NKJV)
“If you abide in Me [Jesus], and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
John 15:7 (NKJV)
Peace.
Reflect:
• Is there a prayer you keep repeating while walking in disobedience to what God already told you?
• Are you asking according to His will, or according to your own lust?
