Another Long Day: Walking, Working and Chasing Financial Stability
It’s another beautiful time to tell you how my day went, and it’s a great pleasure for me to share with everyone here how I spent my day. You’re welcome to another episode of my diary. I’m your good friend, @dotman777.
On a good note, today started on a good note. From my home to the yard, I exchanged pleasantries, shook hands with my colleagues, signed in, and joined in the usual gist. From there, we headed to the site where we ought to be, because at the end of the day, we all have one major goal, to feed our homes and remain financially stable.
Honestly, it never easy to be a man. The stress of trekking more than 2 kilometres from home to the yard, then spending about seven hours walking around the site and working on the main road, is not something I can simply overlook. But this is part of the sacrifice we make just to survive and take care of our responsibilities.
I always charge my power bank at the yard every morning because there is no electricity in the community where I live. After that, we packed the instruments and materials we needed for the day's work. I then entered the bus with some of the other staff members, and we headed towards the different sites assigned to each team.
When we got to our site, we sat inside a woman’s shop for some minutes while waiting for the vehicle to return. The vehicle had taken some teams to their locations because we usually separate on site and work in different locations.
While we were in the woman’s shop, many customers came around to buy different things. Some bought sachet water, bread, milk, buns, garri, cold minerals and other things. That shop is also where some of us usually stay during our lunch break whenever we want to get something to eat on site.
Finally, the vehicle arrived and took us to our assigned location. We set up our instruments and checked two control points to know which one we would use for the day's work. After checking everything, that was when the real journey began.
We started coordinating points on the site. The benchmarks we constructed some weeks ago were what we worked on today. We coordinated them and checked whether they would be useful for the purpose for which we created them. The benchmarks were constructed at 100-metre intervals.
Coordinating the benchmarks took us about two hours because we had to walk around and clear the bushy areas where they were located. We worked until the GNSS started floating, and that was when we finally sat down to relax for a while.
Just when we thought we were getting some rest, the PM put a call through and instructed us to go and pick some clearing areas.
So, we set up our instruments again and headed to the destination he instructed us to go to. We started picking the points from chainage 7+500 to chainage 7+900.
By the time we finished, it was already close to closing hour. We had to work overtime, and this made us leave the site late while some of the other workers had already left us behind.
After completing the task, we packed up our instruments and headed home. It was already late, and I was extremely tired. I got home, had my bath and went straight to sleep.
I was so tired that I didn't even realize how much time had passed. I later woke up around 9pm, and I decided to tell you all how my day went.
Another day has come and gone. Another day of walking, working, sweating and pushing forward. Life may not always be easy, but we keep doing our best because there is always something and someone worth working for.
Thank you so much for taking your time to read about my day. ❤️
Until another episode of my diary, stay safe and stay blessed.
