I am happy to hear, you do intend to develop this more. Do not let it die. It is too good for that and make sure you save what you wrote in different ways.
There are plenty of great artists able to give your characters a face.
Thank you for such wonderful and practical advice, @wakeupkitty! I am definitely keeping multiple backups of my drafts. Giving my characters a "face" is exactly what I am working on right now, exploring some visual tools to bring them to life. I promise I won't let this story die!
