I do not disparage technological progress. However, I am opposed to the "cognitive atrophy of human beings." I remember that in the past, I knew many phone numbers by heart—especially those of the people I called frequently. Nowadays, I only know four numbers. Sometimes I hesitate when asked to multiply numbers. In other words, a large part of my gray matter has fallen into disuse because, instead of thinking, I have chosen to punch numbers into a calculator to solve the problem. I believe that, sooner or later, taking the easy way out will come back to haunt us.
