Was It Necessary?

in CCC • 4 days ago (edited)

The global lockdown,
during the COVID pandemic,
so many things changed,
many things uncovered.

It may have been seen
as necessary, then,
to control, to prevent,
But what?

In the end,
did it achieve its purpose?
Maybe it did,
But for not the purpose we thought.

Not everyone agreed,
Many protested,
Some rebelled,
while others complied.

Masks and social distancing,
did they help curb the spread?
Lives were lost, why?
And for what?

Conspiracy theories lingered.
Who started it? Who funded it?
It seemed the world united
for once, though still divided.

Global concerts, humanitarian efforts,
front-line workers, essential workers, sacrifices,
time apart, time away,
did they all go to waste?

But pollution lessened,
environment got better,
animals thrived,
People learnt to appreciate life.

Are you quite sure about that? The air inside people’s homes was more polluted than during the busiest rush-hour periods in the most polluted cities! And that’s not even mentioning all those extra gloves, injections and face masks that were used, which have polluted the planet for the next 400 years to an extent at least as extreme as ever before. Strangely enough, environmental waste and material waste – not to mention the ban on using plastic – didn’t seem to matter at all at that time. And I haven’t even mentioned the high number of medicines, always for depression and, of course, medication designed to kill many elderly and disabled people. The legal proceedings in The Hague are still ongoing, yet Pfizer – with Bill Gates at the helm – cheerfully continues to promote the jab as if nothing had happened.

This BOOMING vote is yours and well deserved!
