Lifeline

in CCC • 7 days ago (edited)

Silence. Too silent, she thought. But she could hear a faint rhythmic beeping sound. Was that the sound of her heart beating? Beep beep beep beep beep.

Maybe it meant she was still alive. Or maybe not. She wasn't sure. But it felt cold. Why was the room so cold?

She focused her hearing and maybe it was the purring sound of an air conditioning unit.

Flashes of images appeared in her mind but she couldn't sort them out.

She tried to open her eyes but they felt heavy. As though something was pressing them shut, preventing them to open.

She kept trying because she had to. She can't be lying down forever but her muscles just wouldn't move. She didn't understand why. It felt like there was something on her but she must keep trying. She must.

When she finally managed to, she looked around slowly. She didn't really recognize the room. She couldn't remember but she couldn't really see either. It was too dark. Or was it?

She tried to move her hands but noticed her left hand was attached with a wire, to a device. And suddenly, it all came back to her. Her lifeline.

There are moments when you’re on the verge of falling asleep and then suddenly you feel a sharp jolt… your mind snapping your body back to reality with a jolt. A rather painful lifeline.

And a good story; the question is whether she’ll stay or leave. Her departure seems rather bleak, and it doesn’t look as though anyone is waiting for her.

This BOOMING vote is yours and well deserved!

Thank you Kitty ❣️❣️❣️

Yah.. she is alone in the room, just waiting for her time. Even if there is anyone waiting for her, there is nothing they can do to help her.

You had me holding my breath the whole time, your details are so vivid and I was completely locked in. You really know how to tell a story

Aww, thank you, @beckymia ❣️❣️❣️. Your words are truly encouraging and give me the motivation to keep writing especially when I always ask myself if what I write makes sense. Usually, I try to imagine myself being there and how would I have felt, or how I felt based on memories of people I know who went through it.

Aww, you're most welcome Your writing DOES make sense, more than you think. The fact that you put yourself in there and feel it first is exactly why we feel it too when we read it. Please keep writing, we are reading. 😊
