Hunger Games
I never quite understood the movie, let alone the meaning or hidden meaning of the movie. In fact, I thought the movie was quite sick, a game where teenagers were released to kill each other, at the pleasure of the rich and powerful, as a game of survival of the fittest. Heck, I may not be understanding the movie correctly even.
Hunger games, the movie, was said to have a much deeper meaning than just a teen action thriller movie. It signified a world of the wealthy elite who used the poor and the weak as their form of sick entertainment and who decided their fates. It was similar with many of the ancient "games" that movies depicted, e.g. in the Gladiator or in Dune, where the poor, the suffering and the captured as slaves were made to fight amongst themselves or with beasts in a huge arena, cheered on by these spectators who placed betting on who should or would win.
It feels very similar to the world we live in today, where the rich and powerful seem to have the ability to influence the fate of many. It is almost as though ordinary people are merely pawns on a chessboard. The wealthy and powerful can move markets, manipulate numbers, and influence economic outcomes for their own benefit and profit. They can also shape the social and political direction of the world, often in ways that ultimately serve their own interests.
And like pieces on a chessboard, the many are left to move according to a game they did not create and have little control over.
At the end of the day, a question remains, who are they (the rich and powerful) to decide for the many?

This is sick but it's actually deep. It's exactly how the world is right now. The rich decide everything - they move markets, control the system, and ordinary people are the ones left fighting and suffering at the bottom. At the end of the day, nothing but toys for their entertainment.
The world always has been this way, might be we notice this more today.
I think you’ve understood the film well, and this theme features in several films where the rich place bets on who will win the race. It goes without saying that it is the poorest who are most likely to resort to the strangest antics in order to survive. There’s no better entertainment than the suffering of others.
