I think we’re stuck in a loop – or at least the clones are stuck in it – and they destroy themselves only to get back up again straight away. They all share the same nasty trait, which means our protagonist has it too, even if he might not be aware of it. In any case, he gets plenty of exercise fighting that writhing ivy back and forth. It’s also interesting that he can see something from his higher self – the average person certainly can’t. How many downloads or uploads have taken place by now?

I recently came across another article stating that human beings are being used to control computers; this time, someone had also asked Grok (AI on x.com, but also active on Steemit if you give the command and add the name of the AI of your choice) whether this was true. Amazingly enough, this time it wasn’t dismissed as fake news or a conspiracy theory.
