INKtober 2026 - Gangly

It took me a while to realise what this word actually meant. Generally speaking, we tend to think of a boy who’s suddenly had a big growth spurt and feels awkward in his tall body and there are plenty of them in the Netherlands.

Are you tall? People used to say that you’d receive plenty of beatings and kicks. Back then, hitting was considered perfectly normal. Perhaps that’s also the reason why most people toe the line. You won’t come across many who complain about abuse. It was just the norm, no whingeing, just get on with it!
Generation X was, and still is, left to its own devices. The generation that has been through it all and will survive the next crisis too.

For most, that tall, awkward phase passed quickly, although a part were left with poor posture as a result.

The gangly (lanky) boy is tall and thin and has poor posture. I’ve deliberately left the rest of the page blank, so that there’s nothing to distract the eye.

Surprisingly, I’d drawn this quite quickly (quickly by my standards). I love his ears 😍
