Beacon - #inktober

Hello artists, I hope you’re having a great day!

It’s my first time participating in the #Inktober series, so I was a bit confused about how I should write this post. This image was actually created for a freewrite that will be posted soon in the CCC community.

When I saw the prompt "beacon," I was confused about what to draw, but I had many ideas. At first, I thought of a romance genre, then horror, and then some weird adventure before I finally settled on just drawing a watchtower. It isn't much of an idea, but after I finished my freewrite, it felt a bit easier to draw this (though not by much). I didn't get to draw the old man watching from behind the window in the end, but I'm still happy with how it turned out.

The Process

Here is a summary of the simple steps I took, matching the screenshots I captured along the way:

· Step 1: Planning & Line Art

I planned out the scene outside the window, with a beacon shining at the top of the tower through the night. I drew the line art using a digital pen brush. I also used the square shape tool to help draw the window frame.

· Step 2: Base Colors

Next, I added the flat colors using the bucket tool.

· Step 3: Lighting & Effects

Lastly, I used an airbrush to add the glowing light to the top of the tower and the night sky. I added a little shadow, though not quite as much as I wanted. I could have gone beyond this, but my brain had given up by the point where I stopped.

I hope you all like it! It’s not much, but it’s still something. Happy drawing, everyone!

I also struggle with the prompts and in a way it helps to freewrite about it to get some ideas. I started to post here and also in CCC otherwise I have to think out twice something for the same prompt or everything shows here and CCC has no more posts.

I wonder if that building at the right in the front cannot also be a beacon in modern life, like any different building guiding one home. Churches for example with us show often the centre of a place. A hospital could also do the trick, or a school.

The struggle is real — in the end we just have to take any choice. 😫
The building can also be a beacon, and I think “beacon” has many definitions depending on what we choose. We can see light in anything ✌️

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.
