Unearned Degree: Second-Degree Smokers
Hi everyone! Today, I want to gist you about an interesting topic, something you may never have never given much thought.
Let's Start With Personal Belongings
I'm sure we all learnt about personal belongings while we were still children. They are those things that we are not expected to share with others. They include; toothbrush, nail cutters, hand kerchiefs, towels, underwears etc.
But then , as a nursing student, I sometimes wish that we could personalize the air we breathe , at least , our own portion. Sounds crazy and impossible ,right?
At least the choice to pollute or keep it purified will be ours.
You remember the portion of the Bible that warns Christian from sitting in the counsel of the ungodly or standing in the way of sinners ?
If we want to apply it medically you'd see that it resonates with chosing wether or not to be a second degree smoker.
Who Are These Degree Holders ? 😂
A set of people who hold a degree in smoking?
No............
They are people who do not smoke themselves, but unintentionally partake in smoking, maybe by staying in a group of smokers, inhaling the smoke from their cigarettes, tobaccos etc.
Let's Dive Into The Dangers Of Being A Passive Smoker.
Passive Smokers (second degree smokers) also face the same danger and consequences that the main smokers face , sometimes the dangers are pressed down , shaken together and running over. Medical experts and researches have also shown that passive Smokers are at higher risk.
Some of the dangers includes;
- Respiratory problem example; triggering of asthma in susceptible people, respiratory infections, lungs diseases etc.
- Heart diseases and stroke.
- Lung cancer
- Health risk to pregnant women and children.
There are many others but it is worthy to note that exposing children to smoke can cause respiratory infections, ear infections and even asthma attack. Exposure during pregnancy can lead to low birth weight and sudden infant death syndrome. (SIDS)
Your take home from my write up is to be conscious of your environment and protect the younger ones who cannot speak up, walk away or ask an adult to stop smoking.
You should also understand that someone's else's lifestyle can cause you health problems.
