The Great Pumpkin Heist: A Hedgehog, a Corgi and a Very Confused Owl
It was the night before Halloween in Maple Hollow, and the village pumpkin patch had a problem: the biggest pumpkin was gone.
Biscuit the corgi, the self-appointed village detective, put on his tiny magnifying glasses. "A crime," he declared. "A very orange crime."
His assistant, Pip the hedgehog, found the first clue: a trail of tiny footprints. "Whoever did this has very small feet," Pip whispered. "And a very big appetite."
They followed the trail to the old oak tree, where Professor Hoot the owl was sitting on the giant pumpkin, wearing a witch hat.
"I can explain," Hoot said. "I thought it was an egg. A very large, very orange egg. I've been keeping it warm for three days."
Biscuit and Pip looked at each other. Then they burst out laughing.
In the end, the three friends carved the pumpkin together. Hoot kept one glowing eye-shaped hole "for the baby," and the whole village celebrated with pumpkin pie under the moonlight.
Moral: sometimes the biggest mystery is just a lonely owl who wanted something to love.
