INKtober 2026 - Lady

in ᴀʀᴛ & ᴀʀᴛɪꜱᴛꜱ • 5 days ago

When I think of a ‘lady’, I think of Medusa and Cruella (Disney), who make me laugh. Fur coats, cups of tea, a woman who looks after herself well and has a certain bearing or manner. And no, by no means are all women ladies. The First Lady, Maxima and Camilla? I don’t see them as ladies.

This is day 14!
Fourteen daily drawings. I like to believe that I became a bit faster, although I still find it hard to come up with an idea. I am afraid that will problem will not be solved since after years using the #freewrite prompt I still struggle with many.

Issues

The hands and the position of the head.
I had no idea how to draw a fur coat with a fineliner, and as soon as I started, the fineliner seemed to have run out.
I had to give up. I considered covering the drawing with watercolour, but as I don’t know whether the fineliner will smudge if it gets wet, I decided to leave it as it is.

Materials:

  • sketchbook - bamboo paper
  • pencil HB
  • fineliner - joie de vivre - black

14.10.26
INKtober prompt:
#artonsteemit #inktober #drawing #art #inktober26 #creative #steemexclusive

Sort:

In my eyes, this lady seems a bit stuck-up, hehehe. However, the fact that she’s hugging a pole makes me suspect she might be involved in a line of work that isn’t exactly what you’d expect from a "lady."

The drawing itself looks fantastic. I don’t know much about furs—and I wouldn’t wear one myself—but the fur texture looks well done. There’s no need to specify which animal it comes from, is there? Or maybe there is?

Indeed, being a woman is not the same thing as being a "lady", It's the same for man and gentleman.

🤣🤣🤣
You are the first saying that about her holding that pole and not being that lady like (if she does because she is drunk it would not change anything)

Here in my country when someone feels short of income, may say s a joke that is going to rent a street light pole (obviously for some money extra). And, well, the main avenue where I live usted to be very famous a few years ago for that kind of way of living 🫣. So it's not surprise that I had noticed that particular detail.

If she is drunk, well cheers and if she is a sexual worker, please be careful, lady.

With us a sexual worker is an official job. I have a huge respect for all those who do. Imagine how many more 'confused' would roam the streets if these people wouldn't exist.

Here it's not an official job, but I think it's not a crime either. Many women have found in it the way to grow their children or herselves. It's an honest way of leaving, a service for money. I don't know it they feel fine or like but need an income.

But many times sexual workers on those light poles are young transexual men, some of them just find this way of living and some can carry something for defense, so they become a little dangerous too and run from the police.

Congratulations!

Hahaha u know, the first thought I had just looking at your drawing was cruella!! Your furcoat turned out nice though, kinda like the rabbit fur kind. I love seeing dramas with rabbit fur coats. They look so soft. Is she holding a lamp pole? Ya i think watercolour might smudge the fineliner ubless you fineliner after watercolour?

Yes,she holds a lamp pole...
If you ask me that coat isn't soft at all 🤣

Pen after watercolour might work also the other way round.
Chinese ink works too on bamboo paper, just not on watercolour paper. The result you see with my apple.

Who knows Cruella also shows up with one of the other prompts, but making her furcoats will take a lot of time Plus I should use pen or Chinese ink.

Hehe. You know, watching historical chinese dramas with furry coats, their coats look soo soft and I read they are rabbit hair. Poor rabbits though.

What is the difference between watercolor paper and bamboo paper? I am guessing watercolor spreads the color better?

Watercolour paper absorbs more water, and you can then let that water – or rather, the colours – run.

On some pads, the watercolour paper is bound all the way round. In that case, you can get started straight away.
You can paint wet-on-dry – that is, apply wet paint to a dry section of paper – or you can wet the paper completely first and paint on it.
The paint will then bleed into any wet areas, or you can wet specific sections and drip paint onto them, which will bleed across the wet area.

I can’t do this with bamboo paper. That’s actually just ordinary paper. Nor can I first soak it in a bowl of water, then take it out, let it dry, and then work on it with watercolours. You can do this with watercolour paper, though. And you’re also supposed to prepare watercolour paper for use first, at least when the paper isn’t attached all the way round the pad.
So it’s processed slightly differently.

Ahh ok. I guess it depends what effect we are looking or hoping for? Not sure why when I read bamboo paper, I think of chinese calligraphy paper. Do you use those watercolor pencils? I have a set but haven’t quite try them. I think it is a way to paint controllably 😅

The First Lady, Maxima and Camilla? I don’t see them as ladies.

What do you see them as?

Fake, not ladies, they learned a trick but that doesn't make them one.
We have a saying: Al draagt een aap een gouden ring, het is en blijft een lelijk ding

Even if a monkey wears a gold ring, it is and remains an ugly thing

I love this saying. It reminded me of a corrupted wife of a corrupted premier. She would wear chunks of expensive jewelry, it didn't make much difference for her. Can be relate to this saying

The dress turned out great; I really liked the details on the neckline.

You mean the fur coat from some sort of cheaper fur

The collar on the coat gives off a pretty intense Cruella de Vil vibe, hahaha

You’re an excellent portraitist! :)
I can’t claim that skill for myself; I avoid any opportunity to draw people unless there’s absolutely no other choice.
I see someone here whose character reminds me of an "Iron Maiden"—much like the late Margaret Thatcher. She doesn’t care what environmentalists think; she’ll wear fur, just as her ancestors did, and she enjoys it... perhaps it’s the right approach—not to pay any mind to other people’s opinions. :)

I don’t have a problem with wearing a fur coat either.
I think all that fuss about it is over the top, especially when the coat’s already here. Why deface or throw away a coat like this when it’ll last I don’t know how many years – perhaps even forever, as long as the moths don’t get to it?
If things carry on as they are, we’ll end up back at square one anyway, and then we’ll really have to start using animal skins and sheep’s wool again, because synthetic clothing will be out of fashion and there isn’t much of it grown round here.

I’m not particularly keen on doing portraits either, and I’m trying to do fewer of them at the moment. I once read that you should set yourself a goal of what you want to achieve. The goal I’ve set myself is that, before I die, I want to paint or draw a certain person – or create something with soft pastels, it doesn’t matter. I’m nowhere near that level yet, so I’d better get a move on. In any case, it was a nice change of pace, and I found the coat quite a bit of work with all that scratching about. I still don’t like colouring, and it could probably be done a lot neater and more beautifully by someone with more patience than me.

I wouldn’t be able to respect myself if I bought my wife a faux-fur coat instead of a mink one—which is exactly what I did—given that I could afford the real thing. I’m not sentimental about this sort of thing, having grown up in a family of hunters and fishermen :)

Mink is beautiful and so are the animals. Very jumpy and active. Faux is completely different are they still made?

 3 days ago (edited)

Someone might well be producing faux mink fur—but it certainly isn’t mink! :)

When I saw this the first thing I say in excitement is
Don't play! don't play! It's a way of saying Demnnnn you nailed this!

Honestly this is so good, the details on that fur coat are insane. You brought so much character to her face, I'm obsessed. that's a "my face no dey fear your face" kind of face, like saying I'm not scared of you .

There's nothing wrong with the hand or head position honestly.

I hoped to lift her head/chin + nose a bit more up in the sky 🤣

I like confident people and looks do not matter nor does money. A certain class/style is something you are born with.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a good comment.
❤️🍀

This is a brilliantly unique take on the 'Lady' prompt! I completely agree with your perspective—true class and that specific 'lady' aura are about confidence and bearing, not just a title or who you are married to. Your drawing captures that haughty, unapologetic Cruella/Medusa energy perfectly!

Don't worry about the fineliner struggles; the scratchy texture it created actually makes the fur coat look incredibly rich and dramatic. It gives her that 'I wear what I want and I don't care what you think' vibe that the character clearly demands.

Keep up the amazing work with INKtober, you are doing fantastic! I've left a full upvote to support your art. 🎨✨
