MONDAY 05

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.”
John 4:23 (NKJV)

READ: John 4:1–26

The New Testament pattern of worship is meant to be in the spirit and truth (John 4:23). Worship in the spirit is the kind of worship that God is seeking (John 4:23). It is like a number of believers are lacking in the understanding of this thing, the worship of many believers are like that of the Old Testament pattern. Believers are
called to worship in spirit, walk in the spirit, and do whatever they want to do in the spirit (Galatians 5:16).

If there is anything to be called the practice of Christianity, it should be in the spirit. The word or statement, practising Christianity, should not or would not be appropriate to describe a believer living or walking in relationship and fellowship with God. Being a believer is not about practising Christianity, it is about the life to live. How to walk with God should be the appropriate word that could be used for a believer who lives in line with the Bible. When the word practising Christianity is used, then Christianity would be considered a religion, and it is not.

Being a Christian should mean a follower of Christ, someone who looks like Christ; an adherent of Christ, a
disciple of Christ, a pupil of Christ, and a learner of Christ. Thus, the New Testament believers are called to walk in the spirit and live in the spirit. Believers are called to be spiritually inclined. In other words, an average believer should incline to the spiritual side of life more than the physical side of life. But unfortunately, any number of believers are more inclined to the natural side of life than the spiritual side of life, that is why there are more carnal believers among those who professed to be of God through Christ Jesus.

When you are inclined to the natural side of life, there would be little or no cordiality between you and God. What creates a bond or tie of friendship with God and a believer is when you incline to spiritual side of life. You can only relate and walk and fellowship with God in the spirit because God is spirit, He is not human.

Your newly recreated human spirit is meant to fellowship with God, communes with Him, and be able to know His mind or will, which is known as intuition. Intuition is the word or message meant to be relayed to the human mind and be carried out or done by the believer’s physical body. This intuition is also known as one of the three functional parts of the recreated human spirit of a believer. The three
are:
I. Fellowship.
II. Intuition.
III. Conscience.

The conscience is the voice of the recreated human spirit, through which a believer is affirmed or reproved when anything is done, either rightly or wrongly.

The recreated human spirit of a believer should be the main at the centre of a believer’s life and daily living. It is when these three functional parts of your recreated human spirit are fully engaged in your daily living that you can say you are walking in the spirit or worshipping God in the spirit.

Now, some people are fervent in the activities of the church they attend; they routinely and religiously follow the tenets of their denominations, however, that does not equal to walking in the spirit and worshipping God in the spirit. Walking in the spirit and worshipping God in the spirit is about your recreated human spirit having a communion or fellowship with God, engaging with God in all you want to do daily; in which God’s mind or say-so is gotten on everything you want to do.

In such a living, your intuition is functional, likewise your conscience, and your spirit fellowships with God. When the three are engaged and functional in your daily living, it means you are walking with God in the spirit, you are worshipping Him in the spirit, and you are being led by the spirit (John 4:23,24; Galatians 5:16–18).

It is when you live thus that you will not fulfil the desires of the flesh and your life would be pleasing to God:

16 I say then: WALK IN THE SPIRIT, AND YOU SHALL NOT FULFIL THE LUST OF THE FLESH.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”
Galatians 5:16,18 (NKJV)

Peace.

Reflect:
• Has your worship been about place, special form and habit, or is it truly in spirit and truth?
• What needs to change in your life with God for your worship to become real and not just routine?
