The Perpetual DEX Index: 29 Exchanges Tested and Ranked
The perpetual DEX market has become too complex for another generic “Top 10” list. So we ranked 29 live perpetual exchanges across:
• liquidity and open interest
• execution architecture
• maker/taker fees
• spread and slippage
• funding
• custody
• liquidation design
• security
• market breadth
• APIs
• RWA support
And we separated actual execution venues from the growing number of frontends and access layers built on top of them.
That distinction matters.
A platform can look like a separate perp exchange while ultimately routing your order into Hyperliquid or another underlying venue.
Counting both as independent liquidity is misleading.
Current DN top five
- Hyperliquid — 9.7/10
- Lighter — 9.4/10
- Variational Omni — 9.3/10
- Aster — 9.2/10
- GRVT — 9.1/10
But the more interesting finding is that Hyperliquid does not win every category.
- Lighter Standard currently has 0% maker/taker fees.
- Variational Omni charges no explicit trading fee and monetizes through market-making spread.
- GRVT offers maker rebates.
- Extended publishes a flat 0% maker / 0.025% taker schedule.
- Paradex Retail currently charges 0% maker/taker.
- GMX uses an entirely different oracle-and-liquidity-pool model.
And RWA specialists such as Veranta, Vest Markets and Ondo are turning perpetual DEXs into something much larger than crypto exchanges.
So we also built the:
DN Perp DEX Pathfinder + All-In Cost Engine
Enter:
position size
maker or taker
holding period
expected funding
expected slippage
market type
architecture preference
and your primary priority
The tool then finds the strongest matches and models:
Trading fees + funding + slippage
Because:
Zero fee does not mean zero cost.
A 0% taker fee with a poor fill can easily cost more than a 0.04% fee on a deeper market.
Our bigger thesis is that the perp DEX market is becoming a modular execution cloud.
Liquidity venues underneath.
HIP-3-style deployers creating markets.
Frontends packaging them.
AI agents routing orders.
Wallets controlling permissions.
The winner may ultimately be the system that gives traders and agents the best realized execution, not the exchange with the loudest fee marketing.
