Their Growth Keeps Me Teaching
Daybook September 26
Teaching has a long time horizon. The immediate lesson matters, but its deepest effects may appear later—when learners become competent professionals, make career choices, support colleagues, contribute to communities, and strengthen the profession. Educators can draw purpose from witnessing that growth, but the learner’s development should never become the educator’s possession. The goal is not dependence on the teacher, but increasing competence, agency, and contribution beyond the teacher.
