Power Requires Responsibility
Daybook September 24
Faculty power is unavoidable in nursing education. Educators choose what to emphasize, how to assess, what counts as adequate performance, and how much uncertainty learners are allowed to show. Responsible teaching therefore requires more than kindness. It requires awareness of power, transparency about pedagogical choices, attention to student response, and the discipline to revise methods without surrendering professional standards. Student voice should influence teaching, but it should not replace educational judgment.
