Daybook October 16

Teaching presence is partly spatial. Where an educator stands, moves, sits, and withdraws can signal authority, availability, surveillance, partnership, or invitation. Strategic movement may refresh attention and reshape interaction, but movement alone does not create active learning. The educational question is not whether the teacher moves, but whether physical and relational positioning support the purpose of the learning activity. Sometimes the teacher should lead from the front; sometimes sit beside learners; sometimes step back so that students can see one another and think for themselves.
