Knowledge Must Keep Moving
Daybook September 22
Professional knowledge should not be treated as a trophy that proves who we are. Knowledge is valuable because it helps us act, judge, teach, and care more effectively now—and because it becomes a resource for further learning. Renewal requires both humility and discipline: the willingness to notice when familiar knowledge no longer fits, the ability to evaluate new evidence carefully, and the courage to revise practice without humiliating the person who learned the old way. In nursing, safe expertise is not knowledge that never changes; it is expertise capable of responsible renewal.
