Know Where Learners Are Before You Teach
Daybook September 18
Effective teaching begins with evidence about the learner’s actual starting point, not assumptions about where the learner should be. Baseline assessment can help educators identify prior knowledge, attitudes, goals, learning behaviors, and barriers so that instruction is better calibrated. The purpose is not to label learners but to change what the educator does next. When baseline information is followed by repeated formative checks, progress becomes visible to both teacher and learner.
