Meet ForkBuild: build with bricks in your browser, fork anything, own your stuff 🧱

Hey Steemians! 👋

I want to show you a project I've been working on: ForkBuild. It's a free, open-source building game that runs right in your browser. No download, no sign-up, no email. Open the page and start stacking bricks.

👉 Try it here: https://bowo-prasetyo.github.io/forkbuild/

So what can you do with it?

  • Build houses, towers, temples, whole villages, brick by brick. There's a library of ready-made structures if you don't want to start from scratch, plus undo, copy-paste and all the handy tools you'd expect. It works on phones and tablets too.
  • Walk around your build. Jump into World View with your avatar, explore the terrain, ride vehicles, and meet the residents who live in other people's worlds.
  • Fork it! This is the fun part. See a build you like? Make your own copy and change it, like forking code on GitHub, but for 3D builds. The original creator keeps the credit, and their license decides what you're allowed to do with it.

Wait, where's the server?

There basically isn't one, and that's the point. Your identity is a key that lives on your own device, not an account on someone's server. Your builds are signed by you and published to open networks like Nostr, IPFS, Arweave, Blurt… and now Steem!

Why Steem? 💛

Steem has no fees just resource credits, so ForkBuild does something pretty cool here:

  • When you share a build, it goes up as a reply from your own Steem account, to @forkbuild's thread for the month.
  • The reply shows a picture of your build, your description, and a "See it in 3D" link that anyone can click, even if they've never used ForkBuild.

All you need is Steem Keychain with your posting key. ForkBuild never sees your keys; your wallet asks you to approve each post.

Come build with me!

I'd love to see what you make. Build something, share it on Steem with the #forkbuild tag, and drop a link in the comments. I'll come visit your world. 😄

It's still early days, so bugs and ideas are very welcome. The code is all on GitHub: https://github.com/bowo-prasetyo/forkbuild

Happy building! 🧱✨
