GOD REGARDS THE LOWLY
TUESDAY 20
“Though the Lord is on high, Yet He regards the lowly; But the proud He knows from afar.”
Psalm 138:6 (NKJV)
READ: Psalm 138:1–8
The Psalmist in this passage shows us an important attribute of God. He said, though God is on high, in heaven, yet, He has regards for the lowly—the humble or the meek. However, the proud He keeps distance from, that is, knows from afar (Psalm 138:6).
Another translation says:
“Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud.”
Psalm 138:6 (NLT)
Another one:
“Though the Lord is supreme, he takes care of those who are humble, but he stays away from the proud.”
Psalm 138:6 (NCV)
One of the sins that is most detestable to God is pride. God keeps away from the proud!
Some important things that could be found in the life of a proud person:
• A proud person would want to usurp the authority of the person who raised him, or gave him a platform to express himself or showcase his talent or ability, or the person who announced him.
• A proud person would always want to be seen.
• A proud person believes that he is better than others and superior to them.
• A proud person is self-conceited.
It is pride that made Lucifer one of the archangels in heaven, now known as satan or the devil, wanted to exalt
himself and be like God, the Most High (Isaiah 14:12–15).
It is this pride that led him to the state he is now, instead of him being known as Lucifer, morning star, he is now known as, satan, the adversary—he is the enemy of God today and that of those who are loyal to God (Revelation 12:7–11,17).
What would make God regards you is humility. If any iota of pride is found in you, it would keep you away from God—you are kept at distance to Him. As high and great as God is, if you are humble and meek, He will have regards and honour for you. This shows us that what can endear someone to God’s heart is humility or meekness, when you declass yourself and remain small in your own eyes.
Peace.
Reflect:
• Do you really believe God regards the lowly? How does that truth affect how you treat people who have nothing to offer you?
