Oh, how you’d love to get that massive upvote, but no matter what you do, it always passes you by.

And then you look at the Steemit feed on the homepage and see the most ridiculous posts that have received high votes, or so it seems, at least, and yes, here too, appearances can be deceiving.

It’s not usually the Steem Curator accounts or the Booming Vote accounts that are active here.
Both types of account are, by the way, a brilliant initiative, with an army of people having worked on them for a few years now to provide other users of this platform with votes. As I wrote earlier, in some cases such a vote is a payment, whilst in more it’s given as motivation to do better or as an incentive to be more active. It’s only very rarely that a post gets an upvote because it’s so brilliant – including the title, image and hashtags.

Of course, improving and being more active won’t happen if there are no guidelines or if no comments are left suggesting what could be improved. Personally, I sincerely hope that we do not return to the situation prior to 2025, where moderators – who were themselves far from being good writers – began dictating the rules to others under the guise of ‘this is what the Steemit team says’. If, at the time, I entered into a discussion with such a moderator and asked them to provide evidence of this, no evidence could be produced and the matter was simply brushed aside.

Now, as participants on the platform, we are on the verge of embarking on a new path, one that isn’t actually new at all. Writing standards must improve; progress must be made in the use of titles, hashtags and the content of posts; and, in fact, the same applies to the comments.

The whole platform is built on maintaining connections and helping each other grow, so that includes giving upvotes; not just taking!

You can only build a strong platform with all its members, and you can only build a strong community when everyone does their bit. Expecting to receive because you ‘work’ whilst you’re not prepared to give anything to others is a situation that, in my view, has gone on for far too long.

When it comes to a ‘booming vote’s, it isn’t all that different from a Steemcurator account vote. The ‘booming’ accounts may be able to give a higher vote, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll actually receive 100 per cent. It may well be that you earn more with several lower votes than with a single booming.

Are you artistic, a painter or sculptor, or perhaps a photographer? Do you have a talent, or are you a creative writer who lets fictional stories or poems flow from your pen without the help of AI? Then your work can make Steemit far more appealing, especially if you invest some time in raising your profile and maintaining contacts.

What’s the reason? And no, ‘hard work’ or spending days on a post doesn’t count as a reason. The end result does, because that’s what ultimately gets seen or goes unseen. Why did you decide to read that post from start to finish? Did you vote on this post yourself and left a comment?
