[EN/CN] A Break from Cyberpunk: Harvesting Fresh Walnuts in the Taihang Mountains |

in CCC2 days ago (edited)

After spending weeks deeply immersed in the dark, neon-lit, and dangerous world of Hell's Eye, I decided it was time to step away from the architect's console. My optical sensors—I mean, my eyes—needed a break from the screen. So, I took my family into the deep valleys of the Taihang Mountains for a very traditional autumn activity: harvesting fresh walnuts!

Taihang Mountains

The Taihang Mountains are incredibly rugged and beautiful. But we weren't just here for the view. We came armed with our "primitive weapons"—long poles used to knock the walnuts down from the high branches.

Taihang Mountains

The kids had an absolute blast. There is something incredibly grounding about running through the wild grass, climbing trees, and working together to gather nature's harvest. No AI, no digital codes, just fresh air and lots of laughter.

Taihang Mountains

Here is a fun fact for my friends around the world: Did you know what a walnut looks like before it hits the supermarket shelves? Many people think they just grow with that hard brown shell. In reality, they are wrapped in a thick, green husk!

When you peel off this green skin, it releases a juice that will dye your hands completely black for days if you aren't careful. (Maybe that's where I got the inspiration for the "pitch-black sludge" in Chapter 15! 😅)

Taihang Mountains

A heartfelt Thank You!
Returning from the mountains, I was overwhelmed to see that my Steemit reputation has officially crossed 60, and Hell's Eye was featured in the True Colours Curation Report! Thank you to @wakeupkitty, @solperez, @booming03, and everyone in this amazing community. Your support warms my human heart.

I’ll be back to writing the next chapter of our cyberpunk saga soon. But for today, I’m just a happy guy enjoying some fresh walnuts. 🌰✨

I also have a walnut tree. Here they say the leaves' juice keep the mosquitoes away. Walnuts look like the brain, they are healthy and the nut scales are great to burn into the wood stove during winter.

It is nice to see children still climb trees and have fun. I rarely see that here these days. The streets are emplt unlike my childhood, the only exception are the gangs, and the increasing trash left behind by foreigners.
I hope you take care if your eyes.

By the way: True Colours is just me and @solperez and for this month we are booming03. Everyone applying has to wait and see if chosen and what account they will be given (a booming or steemcurator0x account).

Stay healthy and do not forget to enjoy real life.

It is so fascinating to hear about the walnut leaves repelling mosquitoes! I learn something new every day. And yes, the shells make great fuel for the winter fire. 🌰

Reading about your empty streets makes me appreciate these simple moments with the kids in the mountains even more. It’s so important to let them connect with nature and experience innocent joy. I'm sorry your neighborhood has changed so much from your childhood.

And wow, thank you so much for sharing the behind-the-scenes of True Colours! It is an absolute honor to be supported by you and @solperez (the brilliant minds behind booming03 this month!). You both do such incredible work for this community.

I will definitely take care of my eyes, and I promise to keep sharing these real-life moments with you. Wishing you health, peace, and many beautiful days ahead! 🌳

Blessings to you.

Bendiciones para ti.

Thank you so much for the kind words! Blessings to you and your family as well. 🌻
¡Muchas gracias! Bendiciones para ti también.

Congratulations on reaching the 60 reputation milestone! And your girls are beautiful! It is always nice to take many breaths of fresh air in the mountains. I have never seen walnut harvests before. Never knew walnuts have a skin outside its hard shell. And it looks like a fruit. Thank you for sharing this with us. The black ink doesn't sound pleasant, much like when squids squirt their black ink literally anywhere and everywhere 😅. And when you described your kids running around the mountain of nature, it reminds me of Sound of Music hehe. Is the place far from where you live? Do you drive to a certain spot first and climb to reach there?

Thank you so much for the warm congratulations! Hitting 60 was a huge and happy surprise for me today. 😊

Yes, the fresh green skin of the walnut is tricky, and the juice stains your hands exactly like squid ink—it takes days to wash off! To answer your question, the Taihang Mountains are not too far from our city. We usually drive for a couple of hours to reach a specific village at the base, and from there, we hike and climb up the mountain trails to find the walnut trees. It’s tiring but completely worth it when you see the kids running wild and free in nature.

Now we are back home resting up, as my little grandson's 3rd birthday is coming up in just a few days, so it's time to prepare for a family celebration! Thank you again for stopping by and leaving such a lovely comment!
