Behind The Serious Face

When I look at this picture, I see a man trapped inside a frame. He is wearing a brown sweater and a tie, his face is hard and he is not smiling. Behind him the world is empty — just big cold pillars and a dark heavy sky.

He looks angry. Not the kind of anger that shouts, but the quiet kind that sits inside you. He is lonely, lost in his own world, and he is not happy with the world behind him. He wants to turn away from it but he can't.

His mouth is closed but his eyes are full of words. Words he has kept for a long time, words that are too heavy to come out. So he just stares, letting his silence speak for him. He is standing alone, carrying everything inside him, hoping someone who looks at this painting will finally hear what he could not say.
