One Moment, One Lesson

The Story

There is a popular phrase that goes like this way "Had I known, always come at last". I strongly believe in this phrase because it is when we have made a mistake that we will begin to say Had it been me, I know I would have avoided the mistake, just like me when my parents were warning me about the intake of sugar and sweet items and how I do prioritise eating meat and chewing bone.

My constant intake of sugar, sweet items, chewing bone, and listening to the advice of my parents put me in a condition where I cried for over a month, spent money, and regretted my actions. All that I was stopped from doing affected my teeth and caused very serious tooth pain that resulted to removing of my teeth, refilling of tooth holes, and changing of teeth.

At some point in my life, I couldn't chew or eat even the softest food; I was only drinking water because of how seriously my teeth were hurting me. At the time, I was still in school preparing for my examination and had some little savings with me. My tooth pain got to a point that I could no longer control the pain again but to visit the nearest hospital and saw a dentist.

I was thinking it was something that would cost me no less than ₦50,000 to do, but to my greatest surprise, I ended up spending more than ₦200,000 to fix my teeth, and I am still experiencing another tooth problem again as I write and as you are reading this article. Last year, I spent so much money on my teeth; I am still experiencing tooth pain this year, and I am looking for money this time around to fix my tooth pain.

My Experience

The experience of having tooth pain is never sweet; instead, it is a very painful experience where one would be unable to eat and chew something that he or she likes. I felt so bad that I couldn't even eat Christmas meat because of my teeth. I was even unable to open my mouth and eat anything, and all that I was able to do was drink warm water and pap, and I even stopped taking tea. There was a time that I cried so bitterly.

The Lesson

The experience taught me a lot. First, it taught me how to prioritise my health and listen to my elders. Had I listened to the advice of my parents convening the eating of overly sweet items or excessive chewing of meat, I might not have experienced the kind of tooth pain that I experienced.

My Reflection

This lesson affected my life by making me skip my examination, which I wrote the next year. It negatively affected my academic life and my health also. It also affected my finances because it was all my savings then that I used to treat my tooth pain.

I know what it feels to have a tooth pain because I have experienced it before which I cried over my pains alone. I am happy that you're now better at least and please be caution of what you eat and listen to the advice of your parents.

You have shared your experience of toothache very honestly. It must have been a really difficult experience to suffer such severe pain. The cost of treatment and the impact on studies due to it. The lessons you learned from this experience about prioritizing health. Then taking your parents' advice seriously are invaluable. Hope you get fully healthy soon. 🤍

I appreciate your support ma. Thank you so much
