Discovering Steem Flags: Learn World Flags and Earn Steem

There is a new game on the Steem platform called Steem Flags. The first thing that crossed my mind was that Sheldon—the character from the series *The Big Bang Theory*—would love this game; several episodes focused on his fascination with flags.

If you are like Sheldon and have a passion for trivia games, geography, and—above all—flags, this is for you. It is a fun way to monetize your free time within the Steem ecosystem; Steem Flags is an excellent interactive alternative developed by the Do2Earn team.

Steem Flags is a web-based geography trivia game hosted on the Steem blockchain. Its core gameplay involves testing your knowledge by correctly identifying the flag that appears on the screen from among four given options.

The first thing you have to do is log in and enter your password details; then—and this is a bit curious—they ask for your country's flag. I imagine it’s so that flag doesn't come up in the trivia—it would be a dead giveaway—though there is the option to change that setting.

Overall, the site is simple, highly intuitive, and easy to navigate; it features a main menu displaying all sections—such as Home, Start Game, Leaderboard, Energy, Steem, D2E Coins, Join Sponsors, About Steem Flags, and Log Out—as well as a language-switching menu offering nine languages, a thoughtful touch that makes it impossible to get lost.

There are already many participants on the leaderboard; the person in first place is the site's developer himself—an interesting detail. The reward is mentioned somewhat vaguely, as the text is in a very light color; the prize pool ranges from 20 to 100 Steem and will be awarded to the top five participants.

When you start playing, it shows you a flag and four options; some flags are easy for me—those from the Americas and Europe are simple, and you can often arrive at the answer easily through the process of elimination. Others are instantly recognizable and a sure bet—like Brazil's, which is impossible to get wrong. Interestingly, there is no time limit for answering.

The game's scoring is zero-sum—meaning you gain 1 D2E point if you correctly identify the flag but lose 1 D2E point if you get it wrong—so it is easy to earn points if you avoid mistakes, but easy to lose everything if you make frequent errors.

One thing I noticed is that you have about 27 chances—or units of energy—and the count goes down each time you play; I’m not sure if that number resets every day you visit the site, so you have to make the most of every opportunity.

Overall, the game is very well-structured; I find it very relaxing, and I enjoy it when I want to slow down after a long day. It might be easy for people who are into flags, as they might already know the flags of the 195 officially recognized countries. I’ll keep playing to see how it goes and will share details about the site and the game.
