Pick and Write Mulching 👉#40

Sometimes even a small step in agriculture brings big benefits to both the crop and the land. Among the agricultural vocabulary given this week, I have chosen Mulching. In Urdu it can be simply called the process of laying a protective layer around or on top of the earth which helps to protect the soil from various weather effects.

What is Mulching?

In this method, a layer of various natural or appropriate materials is laid on the ground around the plants. Dry dead grass, trees leaves, crop residues and some other organic matter can be used for this purpose. This kind and type of layer helps protect the soil from direct sunlight and can reduce rapid loss of soil moisture in hot days.

I find this method very useful especially in hot and dry weather. Open soil can dry out quickly when the sun is hot, but the protective layer on the ground slows the process somewhat.

Herb reduction

Unwanted weeds and weeds also become a problem in the field or garden. They always ready to compete with plants for water and nutrients. A proper layer of mulching can reduce light reaching the soil surface for benefits of earth, which can help reduce the growth of certain weeds.

In this way, the effort of the farmer or the gardener to repeatedly remove unnecessary weeds from the land can also be reduced.

Benefit to the soil

Mulching with natural materials can add organic matter to the soil by decomposing over time. This can benefit soil structure and overall soil health. I especially like that some of the natural residue from the garden or farm can be put back into the soil.

It is a way of maintaining the natural cycle. What we see as unnecessary, after proper use can again become beneficial to the earth.

A step towards saving water

Water is essential for good plant growth, but water is not available in abundance everywhere. Watering requirements can be better managed if soil moisture is maintained longer. Mulching can be helpful in this regard, especially in hot areas.

However, while mulching it is also important that the layer is not too thick and the plant stem is not covered unnecessarily. Taking the right approach is always important.

In my view

To me, the most beautiful thing about mulching is its simplicity. This does not always require a complicated or expensive method. If we have suitable natural materials in the garden or field, they can be used wisely to contribute to the protection of the earth.

A healthy soil is the foundation for strong plants. Therefore, I believe that farmers and gardeners should not only focus on crop production but should also consider ways to improve soil conditions.

In conclusion, I am of the opinion that Mulching is a small agricultural practice with very beneficial and important, but its benefits can extend to the soil nutrients, water, plants, and gardener's labor. It can be a useful step towards sustainable farming of any kind and type if used correctly according to local conditions and crop requirements according to atmosphere and temperature and conditions.
