Meaning of Reforestation
What is Reforestation? As we all know Reforestation is the planting of trees on the land which is formerly forested, then cleared or removed. Reforestation is also the process of replanting tree or to reforest an area with new forest. The word Reforestation specifically refers to the planting of forest or technically replanting of a forest that has been converted to some other use.
Reforestation is the way to restore some greenery and also to return the land to a good state. Vegetative cover protects the soil, helps to keep its good quality and moisture, gives animals shelter and captures CO2. Reforestation can also compensate for climate change due to trees' ability to absorb it into their trunk, their roots and the soils around them.
Importance of Reforestation in Agriculture
Why should reforestation matter? Trees are key to Agriculture, in a balanced soil and farm system 1. They prevent soil erosion - roots bind soil & canopy of leaves protects soil against impact of rain, lowering the rain's ability to wash topsoil away from farm fields.
4thly, reforestation helps the soil quality: Leaves, rather woody debris, parts of the plants, other plants and so on, fall to the ground, decay and it improves the soil and gives the crop some security.
Third, water saving. More forest coverage would increase the permeable ground that would lead to less surface water, increase water in the soil and minimize the damages of droughts on crops.
When it comes to reforestation, farmers generate additional income by selling products such as fruits, fuelwood, timber, fodder for livestock and medicinal plants. If they have a pre-existing agroforestry system, they can cultivate trees alongside crops or animals and make use of their benefits without having to sacrifice any land.
In addition, trees serve as a windbreak, shielding your crops from wind blows. They give your farm shade, and that is an advantage to some kinds of crops and animals. Reforestation can help you by drawing in more pollinators and other helpful bugs to your farm and boosting your crop productivity.
