My Bangkok Trip
My three nights, four days trip to Bangkok last week turned out well. It was my maiden trip with three other mates. We got along well, had a great time, and we are still friends.
It was a ‘free and easy’ trip, a short break. There was a lot of eating, and window shopping. We did take time to explore their Chinatown and the city center.
Bangkok is the capital and largest city of Thailand, serving as the nation's primary cultural, commercial, and political center. It is famous for its vibrant mix of ornate royal temples, buzzing street food culture, massive shopping malls, and lively nightlife. It also has the unsavoury name of ‘Sin City’ because of its massive, world-famous nightlife and extensive sex tourism industry.
Bangkok is busy, noisy, and there is lots of traffic. Crossing the road is a challenge. The motorists don’t pay very much attention to you. They zapped past you and they will not wait for you at the pedestrian crossing. You just step onto the road and hope that someone doesn’t run you down.
You can travel on the BTS Skytrain and MRT – the city’s rapid mass transit systems to bypass the street traffic. You can also travel on the ferries and river taxis to get around.
Here are some photos from my visit.
Shangri-la, where we stayed, sits on top of a slope. Down the slope is this. The contrast between old and new is quite glaring.
It must be quite a job sorting out which wire goes where.
We were walking around the city center when we found ourselves walking into a religious celebration. The road was jam packed. We had to inch along.
After a day’s walking it’s time for some food to replenish our energy.
On the second day, we took a ferry to Chinatown.
