If domestic robots become cheap enough, would you buy one for your home?
Yes, I would buy a domestic robot the very day it becomes cheap enough 😅 . I’m a housewife with kids and family at home, so if you tell me there’s a machine that can share half my work, I’ll be buying it. Right now my whole day feels hectic and busy in cooking, cleaning, laundry, homework and cooking again. If a robot could take even 2-3 things off my plate, it would give me back time for myself and for my kids.
What would I want the robot to do?
For me, it’s not about having a robot that can talk or dance. I want a real helper in my house chores.
First, for the kitchen , I spend most of my time there I’d want a robot that can chop vegetables, knead dough, stir the curry so it doesn’t burn, and wash the dishes after. If it could also make simple things like daal, rice, and parathas for the kids when I’m busy helping with homework, that would be a blessing.
Second, for my cleaning and laundry work. I want a helper robot that can sweep, mop, and dust every room daily without me reminding it. It should also be able to collect clothes, put them in the washing machine, hang them to dry, and even fold them.
Third, to help me with my kids. Not to replace me, but to assist. Like sitting with kids for few minutes or keeping an eye on them while I’m cooking.
Robot should to be safe. No sharp parts, voice commands in Urdu and English, and easy to clean. I don’t want something complicated that needs an engineer every week.
When do I think they’ll be affordable and common?
Right now robot vacuums are already in some homes in Karachi, but they’re still expensive — like 70,000 to 150,000 PKR. A full kitchen + cleaning robot feels like a dream today.
I think in the next 5-7 years, by 2031-2033, we’ll start seeing basic domestic robots . The kind that can mop, do dishes, and basic cooking. Just like how smartphones and air fryers became normal in every home.
In 10-15 years, by 2036-2040, I’m sure they’ll be as common as a fridge or washing machine. The price will drop because more companies will make them, and AI will get smarter.
For now, I manage with time tables and help from my kids. But the day a reliable, affordable home robot comes to Pakistan, I’ll be first in line. Not because I’m lazy, but because I want more time to actually enjoy with my family instead of just running the house.
Hi there, I totally get it. I’m a full-time mom and homemaker; housework takes a lot of time and effort.
A little help would be invaluable for us, especially when it comes to cleaning.
Hehe, obviously no one is going to pay that kind of money for a spectacle; if you were to buy a helper robot, what you’d be looking for is efficiency someone to help with the toughest tasks so you can use that time for personal matters and enjoy life with your family.
It would be great to see it become more accessible in the future; I hope you can get one to help you with household chores.

Hola amiga me hiciste recordar a mi mamá ella dice que si pudiera tener un robot en casa que la ayudara ella lo compraría porque así no se preocuparia por los oficios, la verdad es que los quehaceres de la casa no son sencillos lavar, cocinar, limpiar, no es fácil así que sería una super herramienta que me imagino sería costosa, en tu caso como eres madre te quedaría más tiempo libre para tus hijos.

Saludos amiga espero estés bien, me siento tan identificada contigo porque soy madre y ama de casa y la verdad es que no es nada sencillo, tener un robot que nos ayude a hacer las tareas domésticas seria un sueño jejeje el precio es algo elevado de verdad y fuera del alcance por lo menos de nosotros, sin embargo pienso que el tener este robot seria modernizarnos y seria un cambio incluso para la sociedad, deberian darlos en pago en cuotas para que nadie se quedara sin uno, la utilidad demasiado buena y nos haria vivir sin tantos estres.
