Poultry Farming in Nigeria: From Small Chicks To Big Business

Today I want to talk about something very important. Poultry farming in Nigeria. Chicken and egg na food we all chop every week. But do we know the work that goes into it? Before egg reach your kitchen, farmers don suffer. They wake early. They clean shit. They feed chickens. This post is to celebrate them and to show you my visit to a poultry farm.

Look at this picture. This is a man standing near battery cage. Inside the cage there are many brown layers. The cage is clean. The chickens are healthy.

Battery cage is one of the best ways to keep layers. The chicken dey inside and the egg go roll comot.
It protects the egg from breaking. It protects the chicken from sickness.

This man is checking his chickens. He gives them layers feed and clean water every day.
He also packs the eggs one by one. If you don't clean the cage, the chickens will be sick and they will not lay well.

This is sacrifice. Many people think egg just appear in crate. No. It start like this.
With one man, one cage, many chickens. This stage is very important. If you fail here, you will fail in business.

Now look at this one. This is a woman inside the pen with many chickens. The chickens are plenty. They are brown and fine. You can see they are around her and she is not afraid. She loves them.

Poultry work is time of joy but it is also hard work. You must wake up early by 6am.
You must give them food, give them water, give them vaccine so they will not die.
Sometimes light will go, sometimes feed price will go high. So farmers dey manage and pray.

This woman told me she started with 20 chickens but now she has hundreds. She sells eggs every day in the market.
She makes good money to feed her children. When I see this picture, I remember my own mother.
She will talk to the chickens like her pikin. Because farming is love and patience.

Without good care, poultry business will fail. That is what I learned from her.

This is the final place. The egg collection. Look at the chickens. They are healthy and they are laying. You can see the fresh eggs inside the crate. The eggs are big and brown.

This egg come from hard work. Farmers bring it from farm to market.
Market women will buy and sell to us. This is how money dey move.

I like to buy Nigerian eggs. Why? Because when I buy Nigerian egg, I am helping a farmer in my country.
I am helping a family to eat. I am helping Nigeria to grow.

The price of egg is high now in 2026. One crate is costly. But we must still support our farmers.
If we support them, they will keep more chickens. Next year price can come down.

What I Learn From This

1. Hard work pays: From cleaning to feeding, farmers don't rest. 2. Cleanliness: Clean cage and clean water make chickens healthy and lay more eggs. 3. Patience: You buy day old chicks today, you get eggs after 4 to 5 months. 4. Support local: When you buy Nigerian eggs and chicken, you build Nigeria.

Agriculture is the future. Oil will finish one day. But people must chop egg and chicken every day. So let us respect our poultry farmers. Let us encourage our young people to go into poultry. Poultry farming is not dirty job. Poultry farming is business. Poultry farming is life.
