‎Greetings, Steemians!

‎It's me, @emmaboy23, and I am always excited whenever I have the opportunity to pick up my pencil and turn a simple sheet of paper into something meaningful. For this particular artwork, I decided to challenge myself with a composition showing two faces positioned closely together. I was especially interested in the eyes, facial expressions, hair, and the different shades that could be created with an ordinary pencil. So, I took my time and worked on the drawing step by step. In this post, I will share how I created it and some of the techniques I used along the way.

Drawing process

Step 1

‎I started by lightly sketching the main shapes of the two faces. I didn't apply much pressure because I knew I would still need to make corrections.

Step 2

‎Next, I moved on to the eyes of the woman because they were some of the most noticeable parts of the composition. After that, I moved down to the noses. Instead of drawing thick outlines around the entire nose, I relied more on shading.

Step 3

‎The lips came next. I used darker strokes around their edges and softer shading inside them. Next came the hair. I used long, curved pencil strokes to follow the direction of the hair. I used long, curved pencil strokes to follow the direction of the hair.

Step 4

‎here I began to work on the man's face; I added the facial features and the beard as well.

Step 5

‎Then I added a little texture to the background and surrounding areas to make the composition feel more complete. I also took some time to examine the entire artwork. I corrected a few areas, cleaned unwanted marks with my eraser, and strengthened some important details. Then below is my final result.

‎Creating these two faces with just a pencil was a really enjoyable experience. From the first light guidelines to the final darker strokes, I tried to remain patient and allow the drawings to develop naturally. Thank you so much for stopping by and going through my drawing process until my next artwork!
