Season 34 - Week 8 Challenge : Improving Steemit.com
Greetings of the day Steemit!
Hope you are all having a great start of the new week!
The 2nd question on this week's challenge hit me directly and is actually something I was looking forward to propose, but just could not find the free time to write it up.
Please note that I am on this platform since 2017 and I have been through all the ups and downs...
And today, I think I am among one of the rare people still around posting original stuffs.
(Would be nice to get some stats on oldest accounts still active...)
Let's go for my proposition!
What one new feature would you like to see added to Steemit.com?
A dedicated RISING CREATORS feed.
The Rising Creators feed is a prominent section on the homepage of Steemit.com. alongside Trending / Hot / New.
This feed will only show recent posts from newer and smaller accounts that show good engagement but not yet supported by big accounts.
And also the feed will be full of rankings as you can see in the above photo. Make it attractive to the user.

An idea of the mobile view of the feature.
Describe in detail how the new feature would work.
Below I will try to explain in my layman words of how it will work...hope you get the idea that I want to project.
- It will only look at posts less than 48 hours old.
- It will prioritize posts with number of comments received and small upvotes.
- Extra advantages are given to new users and lower SP accounts.
- The feed is updated regularly so fresh contents keeps appearing.
- Users can filter it by tags or topic they care about.
The goal is simple : Give quality posts from smaller creators a real chance to be seen before the biggest accounts takes on the feed.

The Current Trending vs Rising Creators Feed!
Who would be able to make this new feature?
This can easily be built by the Steemit Team or experienced frontend developers in the community.
I mainly requires changes to the website's rankings and feed logic using data which are already on the blockchain.
(Post age / Votes / Comments / Acc age / SP)
I don't think it requires hard fork or major blockchain changes to make it happen...
Would many people use it?
Of course yes.
Readers will use it to discover fresh and varied contents instead of seeing the same big accounts repeatedly.
Creators, specially new ones, will use it a lot as it will be a way to get noticed and grow from there.
Overtime, it will most likely become the most visited feed same as on all other social media platforms.
Would the new feature be likely to bring any new people to the platform? Or is it more just to improve the experience of existing users?
It will mainly improve the experience of existing users, especially new and mid-tier creators who generally struggle to get visibility.
However, it can also help attract and retain new people joining in.
One of the main reason new users leave is that they post and get almost no attention or rewards. We need to look ways to fix this.
A Rising Creators feed will make the early experience more rewarding, which increases the chances of getting them to stay and invite others to join.
As mentioned at the beginning of this post, I am here since long and still believe in the potential of this place.
We just need some improvements here and there, make some noise about Steemit/Steem and I think we can grow up from there.
And why not reach the peaks of good old days!
Looking forward to read from you.
Thanks so much for the usual support!
Best Regards!

I really like your idea of giving quality posts from smaller creators a fair chance to be seen. I believe Steemit needs something like this because it would help new users get more attention and grow faster on the platform.
However, I also think we should find a way to make it easier to discover and support quality content, regardless of whether it comes from a new or an established user.
After all, good content deserves recognition based on its quality and effort, not just the popularity of its creator. I believe this could make the Steemit community more active, fair, and supportive for everyone.

Actually we need more and more new users who can join and stay on the platform. Not leave after 1-2 weeks. This is the challenge.
And I believe the best way we can retain new users specially is to make them recognized in different ways.
We all have to accept that it is really not easy to get noticed. Now imagine the new comer on the platform seeing only big accounts getting 100s of dollars while his post can't even reach 1 dollar. This is really very discouraging.
And we need to find ways to make the experience better.
I am not talking about accounts who are already doing good overall, they will still have the Trending Feed for them, whereas on the Rising Creators feed, there will be only low sp accounts and new comers.
Oh well, this is only an idea which I think can bring support to our so needed new users.
For Steemit to reach its potential, we need more and more people joining in, bringing their ideas/contributions and staying.
Thanks so much for your input.
Wish you well.

Saludos Amigo

Greetings of the day my friend!
Thanks so much for the appreciation, I really appreciate it.
We must never forget that we started from zero too, and it is really not easy to get started and specially keep going.
But if you see that you are recognized by small gestures from Steemit.com, you are more motivated to keep running.
I remember back in 2017, it was after like 1-2 weeks that I earned a big 100 dollars vote on my post...this was very encouraging for me at that time.
I know the Steemit Team is already doing so much with the different curation programs, but we can squeeze a little and look for some funds to boost that Rising Creators Feed.
Let's see how the others think about the idea.
Thanks for your input.
Wish you well!
Best Regards.

With this feature you have proposed smaller accounts and new users would get to be noticed easily on the platform. Currently, when small accounts and new users mention you, you may not see the notification displayed because of the size of the account. With your proposed feature, it is going to be a big win for smaller accounts and new users. Wishing you good luck. #s34engagement
This is the goal behind the idea I am proposing my friend. We need to find ways to keep more new comers active and stay on the platform.
I started from zero too, back in 2017. I can say maybe I was kind of lucky to fall in the hands of good curators, that's why I am still around.
But imagine that new user joining in and seeing only accounts making 200-400 dollars a post while his own posts which are much better than the other one never get noticed!
New users will be so happy seeing their post and account on that Rising Star feed, and this will be such a moment of proudness too.
A small change that can make so much good for many.
Well, that's just my 2 cents idea which I hope can be considered.
Thanks so much for stopping by my friend!
Wish you well!
