Mistakes i learned from

One mistake I made happened when I wanted to learn photography. I was really interested in improving my photography skills and I wanted to take classes so I could understand photography better. I was excited about the idea of learning from someone who already had experience and could guide me.

I met a guy online who was also into photography. We started talking and I told him that I wanted to learn photography. He told me that he could teach me and since he stayed not too far from me I felt comfortable with the idea.
We talked about the training and he told me how I could start paying for the classes. Since I really wanted to learn I trusted him and decided to go ahead with it. At that point I was more focused on finally getting the opportunity to learn photography than on asking enough questions about the arrangement.

Not long after I started making payments he travelled. I understood that travelling was something that could happen and I did not have a problem with that. What really made things worse was that after he travelled his contact stopped connecting. I tried reaching him but I could not get through to him. I had no clear information about where he was or when he would be coming back and I did not know when the training would continue.

I was basically left waiting and wondering what was happening.
I felt disappointed because I was really looking forward to the classes. I had already started paying and I was expecting that the training would begin properly. Instead I found myself in a situation where I could not even reach the person I was supposed to learn from.

At first I was just frustrated because I wanted to learn. But after thinking about it I realised that I also had a part to play in what happened. I trusted the arrangement too quickly because I was excited about the opportunity.

I should have asked more questions before making any payment. I should have asked about the training schedule and how long the classes would take. I should also have asked what would happen if he had to travel or if something came up.

The biggest thing I learnt from the experience is to take my time before trusting an arrangement especially when money is involved. Someone can seem genuine and still not handle things the way you expect.
If I were in the same situation today I would not rush into making payments just because I am excited about learning. I would make sure everything is clear first and I would ask questions about anything I do not understand.

I still want to learn photography because this experience did not change my interest in it. If anything it made me more careful.
It was not a huge mistake but it taught me something I will remember. I learnt that before putting my trust and money into something I should make sure I understand exactly what I am getting into.
