Improving Steemit.com? Bugs, Bugs, Bugs

I don’t believe there’s much point in starting something new on Steemit when the foundation is riddled with bugs. For months, even the simplest tasks have been a source of deep, miserable frustration.
- Writing text, where the draft feature often fails to work.
- Uploading images.
- The immense difficulty of setting the slider to the desired percentage.
- The slider having a mind of its own, often jumping to 100% the moment you log in and try to cast an upvote, denying you the chance to adjust it.
- The tiny comment window, where you’re expected to type a proper response. On a phone, it’s only about four small lines, you literally cannot see what you are typing!
- The Wallet, which doesn’t function as it should! You might have to click "redeem Steem" 15 times; even if it eventually shows up in your balance, you often can’t even see it.
- Transaction history that either can’t be found or appears with a significant delay.
- The constant hassle of entering HTML codes to make a post look right, something I can’t even see on my phone! Unless, of course, the text ends up looking absurd, riddled with large, awkward white gaps caused by the alignment settings.
- Comments that fail to stay in the correct order, creating total chaos esp. of it comes to writing contests, a situation that only gets worse whenever a vote is cast on one of those comments.
- The slightest error in the HTML rendering the entire post unreadable.
- Hashtags that don’t work. The features intended to work under a post often don’t function or, if they do, only for a fleeting moment. As for those under comments, they don’t work at all in relation to other comments; at best, you might see another post that happens to use the same hashtag.
- posts and comments frequently showing after a delay.
- The inability to find one’s own posts is a major issue.
- For years, the inability to archive one’s own posts by topic has been a constant source of frustration for me.
Of course, one can find a workaround for almost anything, or at least something close to it:
- You could simply "vote" on comments you’ve already read and replied to, which would change the color of the hyperlink.
- You could create ten separate accounts and ten different communities to categorize the topics you write about, though this still doesn’t solve the lack of a search function, which is particularly problematic for those who have been active on this platform for years.
- You could archive all your own articles alphabetically in a spreadsheet, just so you’d be able to find them again!
- You could upload photos elsewhere.
- You could simply choose never to click "redeem Steem" and never pay out a prize to someone who participated in one of your contest in which case, it wouldn’t even matter whether the wallet feature works or not.
- And sure, for everything else, we could try logging into various other third-party sites or apps to see if the wallet, or some other feature, happens to work there. But the reality is that this forces users to input their private keys all over the place, significantly increasing the risk of being hacked, besides of all the extra time trying to do make something happen.
- And, of course, we could force everyone to buy a brand-new phone of a specific model, or a new laptop, and insist that everyone use the same browser just to get a piece of software to run, but is that really the goal?
I still miss an app like Peakd, or the much more user-friendly app Partiko from the past. Introducing something entirely new makes absolutely no sense, simply because there are already too many unresolved bugs, and as we know, adding anything new only creates more bugs and further issues.
Therefore, once all the afore mentioned problems have been addressed by the relevant parties, and here I am referring specifically to the one working on Steemit.com (as it is an open-source platform and carries the most intuitive name for outsiders and users alike), I would like to see the following features added:
- Archiving one’s own content.
- A search function for one’s own content.
- An option for automatic upvoting (useful for times when we are inactive due to unforeseen circumstances, allowing us to support others if we leave our SP in the wallet, rather than initiating a power down).
- An overview/archive of all photos one has posted.
- An engaging text-to-speech (read-aloud) feature capable of handling long-form content, which could make consuming such material much easier for many. There are numerous long-form story series worth reading, yet they often go untouched by users.
The reasons for this vary: some people struggle with reading, have poor eyesight, experience eye strain or inflammation from staring at screens for too long, use small screens (like those on mobile phones), or are simply too busy with other tasks (listening to a story while doing housework or traveling is a great alternative). - A simple, straightforward way to buy and sell Steem.
- Polls that actually work for everyone.
- The steemit.online shop started in the past and @greatketty planned.
It strikes me that the various sites and apps do not work together. A good example is that when I "resteem" something via one site, it doesn't show up when I log in using a different one, which is extremely annoying.
Perhaps it would be wise to start collaborating and to include all the existing extra features in a single index on steemit.com.
Surely that can’t be all that difficult, after all, we’re heading toward 2027!

I understand your frustrations. They are all valid points.
I don't have the App on my phone. I prefer working on my big desktop. And that is frustrating enough on some days. It would drive me crazy if I have to work from a small scrren on the phone.
However, I have come to accept that that is going to be how it is. I just make of it the best I can, since I do not know how everything behind the scene works.
It would be great if communities can work together. But creators create something hoping to have a piece of the pie. They should all join efforts and make the pie bigger and better. This way, their piece of the pie would be bigger too.
But we talk of what people are like a couple of days ago. So, it is unlikely that the pie will get any bigger. It's more or less each for his own. Sad, but that's a reality.

I have no app either. Steemit.com and the others run in the browser.
So I deal with the same just on a way smaller device and in many cases not suitable for mobile phone.
Development of Steemit has nothing to do with communities. These are the developers and in most cases they are also the Steem Witnesses which get paid or ask for an amount to continue their development. These developments are also something each steemian can vote for.
If it comes payment for a development there are a few exceptions and suggestions been made to prove first whatever one likes to develop is wanted and will be used before asking for finances to support it.

It didn't cross my mind that you can work on Steemit on the phone browser.
Thank you for the explanation of between communities and developers.
See what I mean when I say I am clueless what goes on behind the scene. I am an old dinasaur. I am just glad that at least I know how to use the computer when some of peers are still struggling with it.

Thank you for your support @rokonn of Team 8. I appreciate that.
Enjoy your weekend.
You have raised a few issues that annoy the 'average' user. And me, too, from time to time.
At the moment, I'm no longer attempting to make any changes to the 'old' frontend or to work out where improvements might be useful. There have been too many changes 'under the bonnet' recently, so I no longer have the time to check them all.
Work is also currently underway on a completely new front end. This is expected to go live soon. We'll see which of your suggestions can be incorporated into it. In any case, they have been officially added to GitHub.

You also use your phone? Try it for a month, do everything with it and you will be shocked how many tricks one has to use, and how time consuming Steemit is, to make something possible.
These issues are since at least one year, if not two and mentioned many times before.
Hopefully, something will change and with something I do not mean we all should use 6-8 different sites to make something possible, which is the case.
This vote is yours and deserved! Let's read, comment and connect.

Thanks!
Yes, this week, for example, I'm using nothing but my phone. I'm on holiday on Rügen. I only use steemit.moecki.online and steemworld.org. Usually that's all what I need...
I'm still looking forward to the new version, though. I haven't had a look at it yet, even just to try it out. I hope there'll be a few public tests on steemitdev.com.
Simply fixing individual bugs is not enough. It would be interesting to see a coherent development strategy with clear priorities: stability, user experience, security, and only then the introduction of new features.
I hope the developers feel motivated to take this perspective into consideration and work towards a more reliable and user-friendly Steemit. Cheers :)

Let's see what the nearest future brings. Hopefully, the basic features will be finally fixed.
In the past 1-2. 5 years there have been so many new features that it became impossible to work with.
The developers do not work together, they all have their own projects

I am not too well to write too many words as I am too sick but all I can say is that I appreciate the way you keep an eye on everything so minutely. You have left nothing which is not screening for correction and it's high time they come forward and correct them.
You know I don't believe in flattery but you always impress me with your down to earth approach and this post is the height of your close watch on all!

Dear @dove11,
I appreciate you took the time to read. For sure you also noticed the same. We found ways to post far from ideal, but that doesn't mean it works great and more new features should be developed.
I am aware that those using all the features I mentioned "suffer" the most, while others only notice that the platform is out of reach (and blame their bad WiFi).
I hope you will be in good health soon. Take a good rest. Steemit will still be there, no matter how long it takes.
The own health is more valuable than any social media.
Have a good Saturday/weekend, and do not forget to pamper yourself!

The redeem reward issue was fixed. The code was online. You can test it again on https://steemitwallet.com.
And welcome to test the refector condenser on https://steemitdev.com .

Thank you for your support, dear @miftahulrizky.
Blessings to you.
Well, the developers have basically given up on the platform already—it’s not profitable for regular users, and they’re already raking in the cash anyway. That’s how I see it. Coins are what drive everything.
Thanks for this @wakeupkitty - it has been passed on to the dev team.
Thank you. I hope it can be solved since there are way .ore issues.
A good night.
that voting slider jumping straight to 100 percent sounds like an absolute nightmare to deal with on a phone
