🇮🇹

E' l'Europa?

🇬🇧
I consider the things Trump spouts off about every day to be, almost without exception, either blatant lies or utter bullshit.
However, there is one point on which, in my view, the tycoon is right: had he been president, the war in Ukraine would not have started.
He certainly would have found a way to avert the Russian attack by pressuring Ukraine to make concessions—while undoubtedly lining his own pockets in the process.

Just days after signing a memorandum with European nations to sanction Moscow—and after pushing those same countries to tap into their crude oil reserves—Trump calls Putin, and in a ninety-minute phone call, the world turns upside down.
The US agrees to buy millions of barrels of oil from Russia, immediately lifts sanctions on Russia, and declares that the Ukrainian "pipe-smoker" is the real problem and that the Ukrainian people ought to choose a different leader.

Naturally, with the attacks on Russian refineries, shortages—especially of diesel—worsen, and prices per gallon climb even higher; all this while the midterm elections are looming.
And this happens just as a Ukrainian delegation in Miami is holding talks with US negotiators to hear proposals for ending the war.

And Europe?
Left looking like total fools, holding the short straw.
Now, any Ukrainian attack on Russian refineries will be viewed as an attack on American policy.
Kallas?
She proposes further sanctions against Moscow—but how the hell did it happen that key positions in the European government are held by the Baltics, whose three countries have a combined population of only four million?
We all have to pay the current prices for gas and petrol—partly because three tiny nations want to puff out their chests while hiding behind Europe. The situation now is that Moscow keeps advancing on the battlefield; Ukraine is shrinking by the day; Russia—the very country that our media claimed was stripping chips from washing machines to keep fighting—has started waging war in earnest, and it is Ukrainian civilians who are paying the price. Meanwhile, Europe continues to bleed itself dry sending weapons it no longer has to Kyiv, while the US President hopes for a change of power in Ukraine.

Travaglio, Orsini, Barbero, and others had been saying for years that it would end this way—and I, in my own small way, said the same.
Here at home, the Meloni government—divided but with the complicity of the PD—continues to send weapons to Kyiv; we really are the ultimate suckers.
