YOU STILL LACK ONE THING

SATURDAY 10

“SO WHEN JESUS HEARD THESE THINGS, He said to him, ‘YOU STILL LACK ONE THING. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; AND COME, FOLLOW ME.’”
Luke 18:22 (NKJV)

READ: Luke 18:18–30

The test of your true commitment and submissiveness is shown in what you are willing to lay down or forgo for the sake of Christ Jesus and God’s kingdom on the earth

Jesus said the rich man in the passage should sell all he had and distribute it to the poor, and come and follow Him, that he would have treasure in heaven (Luke 18:22).

The man was sorrowful, he did not want to do it. He was not willing to lose all he had and become Jesus’ follower or disciple. In other words, he did not want to part with the wealth.

The true commitment of a believer is known through what the person is willing and ready to sacrifice or let go
because of Christ Jesus and His Kingdom on the earth.

We could see what Paul forsook and counted all things as rubbish in order to gain Christ:

7 BUT WHAT THINGS WERE GAIN TO ME, THESE I HAVE COUNTED LOSS FOR CHRIST.
8 YET INDEED I ALSO COUNT ALL THINGS LOSS FOR THE EXCELLENCE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST JESUS MY LORD, FOR WHOM I HAVE SUFFERED THE LOSS OF ALL THINGS, AND COUNT THEM AS RUBBISH, THAT I MAY GAIN CHRIST.”
Philippians 3:7,8 (NKJV)

Peter also said they, the twelve disciples, left all to follow Christ, what would be their gains? (Matthew 19:27–29)

Following Christ Jesus will cost you something.

You may be required to leave some friends or peers or business partners and whoever when you accepted Christ Jesus as your Saviour and Lord.

And also, if you are to be used for a particular assignment in His kingdom on earth, you may be required to forsake your career or business or vocation and come to work for Him fully in His vineyard.

This same was what Jesus required from Peter, that he should leave his fishing work and be totally committed to the preaching and teaching of the gospel—feeding the lamb and sheep of Christ Jesus (Matthew 4:18–22; John
21:15–17).

You may also be required to leave your family and relatives if you are going to be used and be sent for cross-cultural
missions (Matthew 10:37–39).

The most important thing is that no price should be too costly for you to pay in order to follow Christ Jesus and
fulfil the assignment He has for you:

“So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.”
Luke 5:11 (NKJV)

Peace.

Reflect:
• What is that one thing you are still holding on to that is stopping you from following Jesus fully?
• Have you really counted all things as loss for the excellence of knowing Christ, or is something still competing with God in your heart?
